"Living without" is a good exercise in mental preparedness. We, my DH and I, live "thin" now. I know he would miss his job...but if things were to get that bad....there would be no market for manufactured items anyways. No interstate commerce, no orders, no gas to ship the orders, no way to contact customers who buy the things made.
I would miss the elec for the well pump. All that potable water.....and no way to get it to the surface. We are still looking at alternatives for well access.
Winter heating. Well, we heat with propane and electric. Guess we'd be wearing more layers of clothing.
Food. Boy, our garden would have to get real and start growing things. I can't imaging living ONLY on what we are able to grow. So far, that hasn't been successful. I guess, plant more beans for drying, sweet potatoes, and do lots more research.
Cooking oils. Hmmm...that's a good one. Fats are necessary in a nutritious diet. Needed to maintain our nervous system, and many other bodily functions. Now, how...where....what.....to make cooking fats? Pigs yes...but ya gotta have one or 2 of them first.
We do take so much for granted in our daily lives. If everything were to stop...all at once... those still here would have to figure out the details on how to keep on living.
I do have some Foxfire books for reference at least. One can't remember all of everything, and the internet would no longer exist either.
