How do you recondition a common hydraulic bottle jack?

HELP! :/ I want to recondition a couple of bottle jacks. Illustration provided for those who don't recognize the term...

A Bottle Jack

I'd really like to find ONE good online video illustrating the overhauling of a common bottle jack. In other words, disassembly, doing things like checking the O rings or any other parts that can fail, replacing the parts. I've been looking, but have not found that "one". If you know of one, please post it. Thanks.

In the meantime, here are some vids that - put together - do go a ways into dispelling the mysteries. I'm posting them because these might possibly help someone... if they're in the same quandary as me. The vids will be helpful till something better is located.

watch this one first...
individual inner parts & function of inside of a hydraulic cylinder:

disassembly of a bottle jack (no commentary, and the views are a bit distant):

restoring fluid & purging a reassembled bottle jack (no commentary, and the views are a bit distant):

This is one on the assembly of a new bottle-type jack - in a way, it's very specific to a certain model, but it affords some clues:

Glad you like what I posted, MrAndersson - but I'm not so happy with the situation. I've found four vids that, if you put them together, are helpful. But I haven't found the one vid that I'd like to find... one that explains all the essentials and walks you through the process!

Unfortunately, my father, or gramps would do this and not share how! I was taught to do everything myself, except for this.

In reply to my own original question, this video is a good supplement to the others:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GX-4Qgu923w&feature=related

It shows disassembly and assembly in animated form. The text is in Spanish and I don't like the music, but you can turn the volume off and just watch the graphics. But it would still be good to find a vid showing the actual disassembly and assembly of a real jack, and with an analysis of what can go wrong inside the jack - hence, talking about refurbishing the jack and replacing parts. In English.

Haven't located that yet.

I'm glad that you like some of what I've posted, Nifty.

Actually, I started this thread because I wish somebody out there in the online digital world had posted just the video I need. My point was that I'd found several that came close (and I gave the links), but not the one that would provide me with the speciic info I want. But if I made a vid on the subject of reconditioning hydraulic jacks, it would pretty well be a case of the blind leading the blind.

On other technical matters related to frugal and country living, I post info or advice when I feel my own experience and knowledge might be enough to be of help. Or I post a link to what seems to be a good page or a good video from someone who seems to know more than I do on the subject.

That's what I'm saying... necessity is the mother of invention! Since it seems the videos don't exist I'm guessing by your skillset that you'll figure out how to do it independent of the videos. It's just a question of if you're going to pick up the gauntlet and make some videos for us all to watch!?!? ;)

Alright Joel,

The first link is what you want. There is a link on that page (right above the large 'SEALS') this is a link to more info.

The second link is just a manual which has an exploded view of a bottle jack at the end.

All I can say is try purging the air out first.... Then try adding fluid... If that doesn't work you might have bad seals or the valves are clogged. I have had luck just bleeding the air and adding fluid. But I don't know what condition yours is in.

Good luck
