Hubby wants to go away for a night. I think the kids are too young to go all night. Am I being too protective? Boy is 14, girl is 12. boy is very dependent, and I don't think he would do well , as in he wouldn't sleep a wink. DD, is more independent, but I still think too young.

Opinions please.

i was a bit of a trouble maker around 13-16. my parents left me home to "watch my siblings" overnight for the first time when i was 14. i had some friends over, raided my parents liquor cabinet, and bribed my sister to secrecy by swearing never to mock Hansen again.

i think it really depends on your kids. when i wasn't raising hell, i was a very responsible big sister and straight A student... had i NOT been channeling my dark side at the time, i would have been more than capable to hold down the fort. so if you have non-demonic children then they would probably be fine.

i'm sure i've just put your mind to ease, right?

NO for me

not until age 16 would I be leaving a kid alone all night long--
the fear of catching the house on fire, or some stupid thing a kid does would worry me to death

My bro just had this problem....lol his son is 17 and his daughter is 14

he took his daughter and let Kevin stay home alone lol

Thank you, exactly what I was thinking!!!!!! Mothers UNITE!!!! Can more join my cause? I otld hubby we could go out, but not overnight. Besides, if I'm uncomforatble, I won't be having a good time. but serioulsy, 12 aned 14 is too young , right?

honestly I would worry to death and never, ever enjoy myself at all so the whole night away would be wasted anyway

go out til late but come home, then you can breathe a sigh of relief LOL

tell the kids this is a trial "very late" night out for you 2
come home very late and see if the lights are on, stove is on, anything amiss, and check the kids that should be sleeping lol----that way you can tell them what they might have done different etc etc to prepare them for being alone. Before you leave give them a written list of phone numbers, what not to touch like the stove, LOL, etc etc etc...my list would be 50 pages long haha

My kids are good, read --really good, like most parents would dream their kids to be--but seriously, ds would not be able to sleep, hence neither would I (or do other things, if ya know what I mean), and dd is is just too young. I remember my parents left me when I was 16, and I stil had a hard time.

I don't have kids, but I WAS a kid. I would not leave me and my sibs alone until we had our own place and were paying rent on it. And we were model kids as far as kids go. But we were kids. There is a reason why kids are legally kids until they are 18!

I'm one of the most liberal people I know, but 14 and 12 is too young to be left home alone all night. They would likely be just fine....PROVIDED nothing unusual occurs. But you know that the minute you drive away, something strange and unusual will happen. What do they do when some weirdo knocks on the door and wants to use the phone? Or when their friends come over and want to tell the whole school that your home is unsupervised by adults? Or the heater starts making a clunking sound? Or there's a power outage?

Nope, those kids are too young to be left alone overnight. They may be the best kids in the world, but they aren't mature enough (by definition) to handle all the things that could come up. And how would you be able to enjoy yourself when you are just waiting for the phone to ring?

yay!! another one!! I jut say they are too young. Period. I have no problem goin out for the evening, but not overnight. Why do men not get it?
