hugelkultur: raised garden beds that don't need irrigation

My non-SS neighbors are probably wondering what/who I buried!

I have a ton of rotten Birch on our property. It would have to be moved to the garden area, not sure how to move big rotten logs. I could build one right where the logs sit, but what about wiring underneath to prevent gophers etc from digging through? This still needs to be done, right?
