I hope this was a typo!

Can you translate that to English for us non-goat owners?
 
CAE is Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis, transmittable through blood and milk - but rarely through breeding, unless he buck is rough and injures her.
It can cause goats to go lame and even lead to death, but over 90% of animals infected live normal healthy lives.
 
Even if a typo, it doesn't make sense since breeding is not a way that CAE is spread.

It is a disease that manifests itself in many ways and is passed on through the mother's milk. Mya is positive so I bottle-fed Plum her pasteurized milk after getting some colostrum from a CAE-free goat down the road. I'll be testing Plum when I send in pregnancy tests this winter.

The first noticed symptom was severe arthritis, so the "A" stands for arthritic. The "C" is for caprine (goat) and I can't remember what the "E" is for....google....

A goat can live a full life without symptoms, or be miserable and in pain and ultimately have to be put down.

I toally get that, but, why? We have such a problem with CAE and the other nasties up here :rolleyes:
Hence the reason I hope it was a typo.
 
I know, it is strange. I hope the person simply knows their doe is positive and are trying not to spread it. Maybe they will eat the babies rather than trying to sell them. There are no known effects on humans from drinking the milk.
 
Maybe someone waned to do some strange experiment? I haven't any clue, but I would assume that it's a typo as well.

I have three does that I need to draw blood from and test - one was CAE neg last year so I need to make sure she is still neg so I can breed her first and collect colostrum from her for later babies from my positive does.
We're managing two herds right now. The adult milking girls who are positive (except one) and their offspring that we pulled and bottle fed who are negative. Eventually the older herd will be diminished in time so that we only have negative animals.

We have not tested our herd yet, but we know they tested clean with the other owners when they got them.
I am very thankful those tests are so cheap.
 
You might want to send a quick message to the posted asking "are you sure you meant +?"
