I need to get an idea of how hens to replace. Im gonna cull out most non winter laying hens next fall. And replace with new hens. Any suggestions on how to mark them?

Clip 2/3 of the flight feathers off of one wing? But you'll have to cull before molting is finished, or re-clip during the molt.

We use a plastic leg band on each bird (available from poultry supply stores). We use a different color band for each year, to make it easier to cull the older birds.

I use different color tie wraps. Also known as zip ties. Those are the ties electricians use to hold a bunch of wires together. I got some from the dollar store.

If you only need the mark to last for a few days or a week, a livestock-marking crayon (preferably not red, and preferably somewhere the chicken can't get to it easily, like the tailfeathers or atop the head) works okay.

For longer-term marking though I am a ziptie fan :)
