I just went out a fed the chickens and noticed I lost a small limb on the pear tree in the storm last night. I decided to rescue the pears on there and then found out they were ready to be taken off anyway. So I have about 20 lbs of pears and another tree that I can gather from this weekend. I've dehydrated them in the past because canning them seemed to take forever.

Now to get to the point, what do you do with your pears? Ideas?

Pear honey! I found the recipe on food.com, I'm at work and posting on my phone or I'd post a link for you. My kids love it, especially on pancakes or biscuits.

My absolute favorite is pear/raspberry pie (or cobbler or crisp or whatever you like.) Just slice them up, add a bag of frozen raspberries, sweeten if needed, and bake as you would for any other fruit dessert. Holy cow, it is good!

ship them to fellow ss'ers in Ohio? :P

Pear butter, as already mentioned. Many immediate desserts -- baked pears....

gingered pear preserves
pear relish.

yum

Wrapped them in newspaper and store in a closet to eat later.

Thanks for all the ideas! Pie -of course:drool Thank you all!

I got to thinking back about why it took me so long to can the pears that I did up two years ago. The only thing I can figure out is that I actually pared the skins off of the pears rather than blanching and then peeling. That might be why I hated it! So maybe time to give it another go...

I must have been typing slow, FarmerJamie, do you have a special recipe for the preserves and relish or can I just google it and use one?

BB -I have major humidity issues in our house so I'm not sure how well they'd do for storage. Someday I will have a great pantry like you're fixin' up but for now, I'd better deal with them as they come!

A family friend made some, I'm sure you can Google it.
