Increasing Self Reliance...any ideas?

Coturnix Quail are a good idea. They grow faster than chickens or ducks. Can butcher sooner. Get eggs sooner. Usually lay eggs when the chickens and ducks have stopped or slowed down.

If you get Browns or Goldens, they can be sexed by color before they start to crow. Meaning you can seperate males before the other color forms.

Greenhouses. Learn wild foraging. Get a job :P I know hard right. ;)

Greenhouse is an idea. I hope to maybe have a summer job. But its so hard to in the summer do get involved in any long project (long story, must pm for details).

Plan your garden to not only have plenty of food for all in the family for a year, plus an extra person or two, think about growing a few things to sell, and also give to an elderly neighbor or two.

Its incredible how much you have to actually grow.
For us and the two extended families, I have started about 1,500 onions :th

Garden definitely needs to be harvested more heavily. Im gonna milk the growing season. Im gonna have more cold weather crops this fall.

That is great you might have a summer job. I think I know why on the difficulties anyway without PM. ;) Wild foraging is a GREAT way to stock up. One lady let's me pick up her pecans because she is unable to get them herself, and we share the bounty. Otherwise, neither of us would get any :hu Find out ways to do things like that and in the process help the elderly and the community. I pick blackberries, apples, muscadines, pears, plums, pecans, blueberries, and a LOT of things this way that I don't grow myself. :hu I fish in families ponds and usually anything I get, they get part of it too. It helps everyone.
