Is it just me...

Ya that is a bit creepy. Expecially the glass in your room that darkens so you cant see through it. Then is see through again. I would rather go with curtains..

And having every thing, I mean almost every surface in the house a type of computer touch screen. That means every thing would need an energy outlet. Extra electricity used during the whole day. Dont we already have enough energy vampires in the house with the regular stuff we have in the house.

If you think your electricity bill is high now.. It would be more than your rent or house payment..

Ouch.

This doesnt seem very enviromentally friendly.. Meaning all the extra energy that would need to be produced to run the stuff.

And the replacement of all the stuff when it wears out.. Touch screen stuff doesnt last as long as your regular things.. That would mean more stuff in the landfill..

Nope I wouldnt have any of that stuff...

I think some of those technologies are very cool. Some are already in use today. Not very likely for all of them to come to fruition though.

Didn't Corning move to China?

g

oh yea I would have some of that stuff!
very cool and technology is going to happen.

creepy, no
kinda unsettling that it "is the way we are heading" yea.

we sure "need to go back" but at the same time we need to move forward.

all that "glass" means way less metal processing, what is better? heck I don't know yet

Yup like Gina said the technology is happening now, so to strive for what they present is "maybe" doable.

The technology looks pretty cool, to me. Not too crazy about the idea of being tracked and recognized wherever you go, though ("welcome back Jennifer", said her car and some display in a store). I prefer to fly under the radar most of the time.

You should have a LOT less need of regular travel, for work and such for many folks at least, if that were to come about.

I have wondered about those self-darkening windows. What if it messed up and "exposes" you?
:th

A lot of it IS pretty cool. But ... to me it's also a lot of "stuff" to spend money on that you don't REALLY need. And I'm not too sure of all those glass surfaces everywhere hooked up to some informational network. They can apparently "see" since one surface can pick up from another surface. Talk about the opportunities for Big Brother watching you!

And ... a kid would be in trouble for plopping her shoes on MY kitchen counter!!!

well.........if it were to happen to my house, my neighbors would either be laughing hysterically, or they'd go blind. :lau

I thought the kids uniforms were kind of creepy. Everything else was pretty cool. Of course that would be a day in the future of about 1% of Americans. Can you imagine what all that stuff would cost? It was a neat commercial though. Amazing what they can do with CG.

I like the windows. I bet that is pretty close to being a done deal. It will probably be in high end cars pretty soon.

Why would you want that stuff built into your diningroom table and countertops? I mean, they get scratched, they get pots set on them - can you imagine accidentally activating something by setting a hot oily pot on it? Woops! Sorry Grandma, didn't mean to video you that shot of me cooking breakfast in my jammies!

And how plugged in can you be? I don't fancy living in a world where I am constantly connected to an electronic device just to exist.

The kiosk on the sidewalk. Totally impractical. The only place it would be useful enough to justify the cost is in a big city, where demand for it would be too great for individuals to actually get a chance to use it.

Also, they are implying that all of the components of a computer could be made of transparent material. Problem is that no transparent material conducts electricity, and that technology requires electrical conduction. So their whole "day of glass" fantasy is just that - a fantasy.

Touch screens aren't what they are implying in the video - this is quite a ways from that.

I don't think I'd want it anyway. Cost, power consumption, cleaning (everything would have to be cleaned of fingerprints on a daily basis), scratch potential, etc. It all adds up to something that people would look at and say, "OOOOOh, that's NEAT. And then they'd either hate it, or would not use it like they thought they would.

I deal with new forms of automation on a daily basis, and there have been tons of technologies like that which have been passed over for similar reasons, or which were fantasized about but never brought to fruition due to impossibilities that the designer never thought of (though if they had just THOUGHT, they'd have figured it out).

I also deal with people who have a lifelong romance with gadgets, and never use half of what they buy. Business owners who buy the latest thing because someone else has it, and then realize it actually complicates their life, or adds no benefit worth the time and money to use it, and they abandon it and wonder why they did it in the first place.

I just can't take it seriously.

Some people are, clean. They don't wash chicken butts in the sink, or have that rooster jump onto the counter and grab your dinner.

I have a hard/weird time going to other peoples houses.
