My nubian doe is stating to develop. She is a very "endowed" doe. She is due around March 15. I felt one kick the other day when I checked her and I also felt milk veins developing. Makes me wonder if maybe I could be off on her date.

Well I don't have a whole lot of supplies here so perhaps I should feel worried, but I've watched so many veterinary procedures that I am not nervous. I'm not looking forward to hanging out in our chilly goat barn but other than that I have a very strong stomach. My goats who are due, their mom is a 3/4 nigy, 1/4 pygmy who was accidentely bred to a full size nubian and gave birth to triplets....

Donald, Ginger and Molly. My goats. Who I bred back to a tiny little nigy, so I'm not so worried. I think Molly is only having one.

But I'm glad to have a kidding partner! I luckily have a very strong stomach and paper bags and 4-H kids are not required.

I do have a young friend who wants to come over and watch and assist. She is strong, smart, and going to veterinary technician school. I worked with her with dogs and we work really well together. Since Hubby is squemish like OFG, I will call upon my friend whom I'll call Annie if I need assistance or moral support locally. My only worry would be a big vet bill!

OK, OFG, don't you have something to butcher to calm yourself down? A chicken, a duck, OD?

We are FAR from udders here....my first is Ginger the first day or two of April, then a long break before the goatie flood gates open in May. I hope Ginger ends up being a cow. She moo's like one.

Yeah, but she's a full size gal. And don't even talk to me about Vita. I don't wanna hear it

Whew, we had to attach some chicken wire to the plastic green fence that keeps the chickens where we want them - some wild animal chewed holes through it and we've had chickens everywhere.
Say, do you know what one little chicken can do to an open bale of straw? I do. One little chicken can spread that bale of straw into a 10 x 10 mess all over your back porch. Then, because the duck saw what a nice nest is was, well they had to come onto the porch and investigate. And poop. Which froze in an instant because it's like 20 degrees out.
So the chickens are secured now and I have a lovely dinosaur sized nest on my porch. And frozen fingers. Typing is a little painful.

I'm dragging my sorry self around looking for coffee I haven't slept well at all over the last week so I feel tired and achy. I'm just waiting for the temporary insomnia to pass. It will and I'll get back to normal.

Sage our puppy has discovered frozen chicken poop.

When I go out to feed in the morning he is always right there under foot when I open the coop door.

I first I thought he was pushing up there to see the chickens. Then I realized that when the door opens a frozen solid poop or two usually drops out on to the snow. Why it is like a great big gumball machine to him!

Sorry your frozen poop comment reminded me.

The dog and ducks like the goat poo. The also dog likes the chicken poo. The goats like the rabbit poo if they get a chance - it's just recycled alfalfa to them. The cats - well, I don't know what they like, but they do like to poo IN the chicken coop I don't think anyone eats the duck poo, but the cats and the dog love to drink out of the duck water bucket - the muddier, the better. Goofy animals
