Just want to say

Last time I was to a beach was March/April 2002. We took a trip to Gulf Shores, Alabama to visit family. The beach was my favorite part of the trip...oh we didn't swim, but I snagged some beautiful pictures of my DD and oldest DS who were 3 and 1 at the time.

I live six miles from the coast and I never go to the beach - well, a friend and I walk Duxbury beach occasionally, but I haven't been in the heat of the summer for years now.

If I have free time I prefer to spend it in my garden. I run around so much, my idea of a vacation is to just stay home and putter :)

We get away a lot, we go up to the house in Maine, we go north from there into the North Woods, lots of lovely water up there to enjoy, too.

I also have to say I'm no fan of swimming in the ocean, especially around here, it's wicked cold! If I am going to swim in salt water, I prefer the balmy waters of the Caribbean - so fat chance of that happening again anytime soon!

I am with you. although I can deal with MD, VA, or the Carolinas if need be.

The problem is that even in the heat of summer the waters off the coast of Mass can be rather frigid. I used to go to Cape Cod every summer when I was married. The Sound wasnt' bad but the Atlantic was nippy.

Down here in SoCal, the water only gets warm enough for me in mid August- Sept. but I am a wimp. The kids hit the water in June! Crazy kids....I keep an eye on the lifeguards board and don't venture in till the temp is over 70!

lol... we swim in the Bay of Fundy (Atlantic ocean) here, and the average water temperature during summer is 42F... it's only a few degrees colder in the winter because of the tides.

We go to the beach all the time, but it's rocky... the hiking is great, and the scenery is gorgeous... our woodlot is only a few miles from Cape Enrage, which is a beautiful spot for rappeling and smelling that salty air :)
