keljonma's Front Porch - Settling in and adjusting

Wow, I missed a lot this weekend!

Great news on the interviews and Good Luck!!
\The farmhouse sounds great too! I know that you are not at all happy where you are so this is wonderful :) Will you be able to bring your flock?

I am so sorry to hear about the fire. Thank goodness they got out safely! Any idea how it started?

Thanks, Dace! The fire marshall suspects it was an electrical fire. The kitchen appliances are melted - so possibly the fire started in that room. We won't know for a while I guess.

Kel woke up when she heard the alarm and wondered why her alarm clock was going off, as she never sets it on the week-end. Then she smelled the smoke and realized the noise was from the smoke detectors and not the alarm clock. The back door to the house was close to her room, so they were able to get out quickly.

DGD is almost 12 and DGS#1 is almost 8 - so they usually don't sleep with mom anymore. DGS#2 is almost 18 months old, so it isn't unusual for him to sleep with mom. Kel's room is at the back of the house and partially an addition to the original building.

So the real God moments were that all the grands were sleeping with their mom that night and that Kel's room was not completely destroyed by the fire. :bow

10/26/09 - Monday

34 last night and 61 this morning. Autumn in NE Ohio can require a variety of clothing! :gig

TR is working. He called a bit ago and said he still hasn't been called in for the interview. I guess his boss will wait till the end of the day.

I did some grocery shopping yesterday after church and bought an 8 pound spiral sliced ham for $1.99/lb. I think we'll have a couple slices for dinner tonight.

I am making veggie soup for Lead the Way Cafe on Wednesday. The entree is pizza, and there will be tossed salads, fresh fruit, pb&j sandwiches, hot dogs, and beverages as well. A family of 4 can eat for $5 at Lead the Way Cafe, which includes everything.

ETA: We got up to 67 this afternoon! :celebrate

wow that fire story is super scary
so glad everyone is OK

by the way, is TeddyRoosevelt your hubby by any chance. he posted about a fire also in another thread....seems like the same one? hopefully there couldn't be 2 of them....that would be terrible.

glad all is OK and I hope it goes easy for her and the kids. such a mess I am sure.

Yes, FC, TeddyRoosevelt is my dh. :D

He first posted last week-end - his first thread was called Died and Went to Heaven.

LOL-LOL---I remember the died and went to heaven thread.
That was a cute thread!!!!
LOL

COOL!!!!

God had a hand in those kids being with her that's for sure. So glad they are all okay.

Congrats on find the farmhouse to rent.

Wow scary, glad to hear they are ok. Is there anything we can do to help? Do they need anything?

Glad to hear your moving, I thin the farm house sound great. Can't wait to see pictures.

Have a great week, stay warm.

Busy day today. TR was off work, so we had a day of errands to do.

Woke up it was 39. We got as high as 63 and the sun was absolutely beautiful today!

Dropped off books at the library, stopped at church and dropped off the 4 gallons of veggie soup I made for Lead the Way Cafe, dropped off a large bag of recycling, and did the laundry.

While we were waiting for the clothes to dry, TR and I sat on the bench in the back of the laundromat and read books. I am trying to finish up When the Game is Over, It All Goes Back in the Box, and TR is reading Max Lucado's He Chose The Nails.

The sun was absolutely perfect out there on the bench. If I were a chicken I would have been doing the wing stretch sun bathing for sure. I would probably look like Lady Bird in this old pic... :gig

On the way home we stopped and bought some groceries, and got gas for $2.45/gal (20 cents off/gallon) at the store pumps. This was the cheapest gas in town, everywhere else it is $2.69/gallon.

Then we had to stop and buy some water, as we were all out. I sure won't miss doing this! :D Then we had fried bologna sandwiches for lunch when we got home.

We went to the library that is closest to us this evening and got out more books. TR is reading Chicken Tractor by Andy Lee.

We had pumpkin cake for a snack when we got home. I still haven't decided what to make for dinner. Probably a Caesar salad.

They had a large influx of patients at the hospital yesterday, so TR's interview was cancelled. Tomorrow he is back to work, so hopefully, he will get an interview for the full-time job then.

Thanks Gina! I am not sure what they will need; most likely everything. The Red Cross has been helping, but I am not sure how much. This is one of my frustrations: they are in Texas, I am in Ohio.

DD and grands are staying with her in-laws for the moment. I do know she has been offered some housing options, but not sure how quickly anything will happen. The fire marshall has not given his report yet on the cause of fire, which has to happen before insurance and rebuild or whatever.
