I always took mine to the grocery store, bank, etc. with me. Math was their worst subject. Multiplication was like pulling teeth...VERY painful for them. We simplified it, and they learned hands on. I also got older DD a checking account at age 16 and made her use it for everything. I have them help plan the budget, and budget cuts. I have them start cooking at age 10 or so, and make sure to point out the "real" math they are doing so that they recognize math for what it is. They still aren't too great with tests and such at school, but at least they know the darn math when it counts, in real life applications. Some kids just hate forced mathematics :hu I wouldn't gage her performance on school math, gage it on real life math, and see if she actually knows it. If she does, don't worry so much about forcing her to make terrific grades in school. Fr whatever reason math grades do not reflect the actual ability of the person in a lot of instances.
