Lace Making

I live almost next door to a lace museum. They even have classes on making lace.

Good luck on picking it up. I look forward to pictures.

I have no information to give you on lacemaking...just wanted to share a vignette from my past.
My grandfather was born in 1904. He had 11 siblings that survived into childhood. They lived in a two story house - two bedrooms upstairs (1 for his parents and 1 for the girls in the family) and all the boys slept in the kitchen/sitting room. In the evenings after they ate dinner, their father read from the Bible. The girls peeled potatoes or other prep work for the next morning's meal and sat on one side of the room, the boys sat on the other side and were assigned tatting - they tatted lace collars for their sister's dresses. One of my favorite memories is the image of my grandfather's gnarled hands holding a piece of delicate lacework and watching him tat. No, I didn't learn how. Just another thing I wish I had learned from him while he was alive.

I remember watching my grandma making very simple lace, like what you would edge a collar with. She said she wasn't very good at it but I bet she could have showed you what you need to learn first. She did a lot of crocheting and darning and fine needlework. Eventually her hands just could not handle those types of crafts anymore.
She made a lot of lace doilies, you might try those first, I think those are easier.
