I found an awesome blog post about making your own menstrual pads! For washable pads from Gladrags they run about $20 for only 3!! I kmow some people prefer the moon cup but for those of us who use pads this is a great upcycle and keeps countless 'sanitary' napkins out of landfills.

I was reading it and love it. But I haven't 'flowered' since sometime over the summer Come on you young women.....someone has to give this a shot!!! Confession time: I have used cloth diapers and folded face towels, myself. I figured, if my babies were wearing cloth, what business did I have wearing disposable. Besides I was always broke at the time.

I might be taking a week off from work soon and plan on cranking out my own version with wings like disposable ones and snaps on those to hold it in place essentially using my panties for a pattern

If I could turn my girls on to this, I would in a heart beat. One of them, uses the most expensive stuff on the market.

My mother and i both have skin sensitivities. traditional pads rub raw and make me itch. Tampons pinch like no other if i move wrong. it just plan sucks

Well, glad someone will. I just talked to my middle child and you should have seen the look on her face. She was fine with the idea of making her own, until I told her she'd have to wash them out to reuse......where, or where did I go wrong??? I told her that I complained that one of my girls uses the most expensive stuff and she started argueing that its not the most expensive. Guilt??? IDK. Well, I did tell her that part about women using about $10,000 in the course of their lifetime on sanitary pads.....that seemed to freak her a bit. Thats a decent second-hand car!!!

That much could get me a new Motorbike quite easily :'l I never actually though about how much money was being put in these darn things. Even if using more expensive cloth for the re-usable kind they pay themselves off in like 1-3 months (the boxes I buy cost about $16-20 since I buy bulk at samsclub)

10 Grand would be almost 1/3 of what it would cost to buy the house we live in

I'd draw the line at washing menstrual products to reuse also. I'm all about saving money an self sustainability but I'm not scrimping on personal monthly products. They dont have to cost the most, but they'll be what works best for me, and disposable.
