Isn't buttermilk what is left after making butter? so most of the fat should be removed anyway, right?

Oh- you might be right about that...I was remembering the buttermilk of my childhood that always had little flecks if butter floating in it. Oh man was that good!

Buttermilk in the store is a cultured product like yogurt. It's normally made from skim milk.

The old traditional stuff was just the leftover after making butter. I love it when I make butter. It tastes so rich.
