Lorihadams-- hi guys...been busy!

They're Heeeeeeeeeeere! My broilers arrived this morning...62 little ones, all look good. They are all set up in the brooder and are eating and drinking and even eating grass and clover already!

Will broilers eat grass? Yep, but you gotta train 'em early....mine get cut up fresh greens from day 1...grass and clover.

My meaties are out freeranging all the time. When I first wake up, they are dotted all around the back yard, pecking at grass and bugs. It really is nice to see. Mine have two more weeks to go till freezer camp.

I tractor mine....we have to build 2 tractors for these guys cause they are going in the front pasture once they are feathered out.

It is 63 degrees and raining steadily but lightly. There is a small praying mantis on the side of the house under the porch and my DS is out there with one of his plastic ones taunting it.

Mine are in electric netting that we move occasionally. I must admit this batch seems to be the best I've had at freeranging. I think it is the time of year we got them, as they were only in the brooder for a week before they went outside. (we have a movable shelter with a heat lamp for them). I think it is like you said, if they start early eating the greens and such, they continue . Yesterday as I was moving there shelter, I found two worms, and tossed them to the birds, they just kinda looked at it. I'm assuming they didn't know what to do with it, since it has been so dry for most of their lives (except the last few days) they ddin't know what a worm was or that it might be food.

I have to be honest raising meaties was way more enjoyable than I expected. I actually liked them better than some of my chickens as they were way more friendly. I started mine out in the shop and then at two weeks old I moved them outside to free-range. I always thought meaties would just sit in front of the feed dish and scarf themselves but mine were all over the yard and acted like chickens do.

Yay! Must be the day for chicks, mine came in too!
It really must depend on the hatchery & the parent stock. My beek friend's cornishx just sat there, ate and looked creepy. From about 1 week old and on. He does have 2 left that are huuuuge and they wander around... but they're limping.

That brooder looks like a truck bed. Is it?
If so, we need more-gooder pictures of it!! :clap
