Lupin Farm ~ Updated photos of the goat pen in progress

We locked up the chickens this evening to find one of the Easter Eggers was missing! No feathers on the ground, no sign of her anywhere. We looked well after dark, thought maybe she'd roosted in one of the trees when it got dark but we couldn't find her anywhere. I'm just super hoping mum overlooked her in the coop, hopefully she shows up tomorrow morning.
 
So did your EE show up this morning? That is the one thing that scares me about letting the chickens out to free range. But you just have to take that chance. I know my eggs taste better when the chickens have been out.
 
Yep, we found her. I thought I saw her in one of the nestboxes last night, but when I let the chickens out this morning she was no where to be found. Then I went round to check on the vegetable garden and there were 3 EE girls drinking from the water on top of a tarp, and I noticed 2 more out by the dog run... so she was back. I guess she got locked out last night and spent the night nestled somewhere where no one could find her :idunno
 
Bathroom update...

Mum got the vanity out of the bathroom today to discover this bizzarre little cavity. We've decided there was likely a bay window of some sort here. On the other side of the wall is a small built in bookcase at window height, and the brick stops and the plaster goes around in a curve to suggest a bay window of some sort, this was actually at one point the exposed side of the house. The wood portion was a later addition.

I know what you're thinking, what the heck is with those holes?! We have honestly no idea lol. In the cavity was a big squirrel nest though in some insulation which looked disused, but very gross. Its been bagged and thrown. We're thinking the old piping or maybe even stuff from a boiler went through there. The middle pipe is part of a sink system from a previous sink before the one that was there, for some reason they thought about just leaving it there LOL very strange IMO. And yes, if you look down those holes that is our cellar down there. The bathroom at that point sits on top of an enormous boulder..


And the whole bathroom, the wall on the right is coming out to expand the bathroom the width of the brick portion of the house. That allows us to have a big walk in shower, double vanity, toilet, plus a dressing area with cabinets..

Tomorrow we go to Olympia Tile in Toronto to price out some marble tile for the floor, beveled subway tile, and trim tile for it all...I'll take lots of photos!
 
Amazing what you find in old houses, isn't it? :idunno

At least you know what you are dealing with now and can take care of it. Projects always end up being more than you expected! :barnie
 
I've decided I'm turning my livejournal account into a great little renovation journal for this place. It'll more or less include everything from the house renovation, to fencing, to the garden. Nothing is up yet, and I'm still trying to get the profile edited and all that jazz but this is the web address...

And to update on the bathroom renovation. We went to Olympia tile yesterday to get prices for subway tile and 6x6 marble floor tile. Yeahhh as it happens, marble is a bit on the spendy side for us. To do the whole floor we were looking at around $3000. Far too much. Instead we're looking at doing a white ceramic (matte) with a black marble inlay (1" tile, at the corners of the tiles).

We also started ripping apart the bathroom more today. Pulling off the plaster to see what was underneath. As it happens, and this is somewhat of a good thing, our house looks like it is *not* double brick construction but rather single brick with some wattle, framing (much like the german style) and about 2 layers of thick barn board on the inside. This now means we have to put up stud walls for our drywall and insulation, but not biggie lol.

I go to university in September, so most of the big projects have to be done before then.


We're hoping to be done the bathroom by the end of June.
