Made some homemade laundry detergent...LOVE IT!!!

I just add a package into my mix, sorry forgot to say that when I make my dishwashing soap I use equal parts of the ingredients...and then add a package since its all powder.

Im not sure how it works...but when I didnt use it I had horrible heavy spots on my dishes...even the Vinegar others said to use left spots...I read somewhere to use kool aid, and now its alot better, some days I have no spots other days light spots...but its a huge difference from before.

Well now that we are getting settled in the country I thought I would try mass producing Laundry soap to sell. When I got here I quickly found out that my neighbor is already doing it!

I joined a selling coop to sell my jewelry in and I got to watch her soap fly off the shelf.... so if any of you have thought of doing this project I have seen that it really sells!

This is the recipe my friend gave to me. She sells her's but also gives away the recipe. She doesn't sell it for the money (her husband's a pilot). She sells it because it's the only thing that worked for her children's clothes. She has a disabled daughter that has to us drool bibs. She said that even after she washed them in regular detergent, they still smelled spoiled. This stuff works better than anything she's ever tried. anyway, recipe.

1Cup Borax,
1 Cup Washing soda,
2 Cups finely grated goats milk soap,
Cup Baking soda,
10 drops GSE,
10 Drops Tea Tree Oil,
5 Drops lemon essential oil,
2 Oz fragrance oil.
Use one tablespoon per load.

I started making my own laundry soap just recently.LOVE IT and will never go back to the store stuff. Well yesturday I was at my sissy's house( the townie girl) and I was chatting with her about it, and she can't wait to make a batch,we'er going to get together soon and share in the grating, lol thats what takes me the longest(hate that grated)Iam so excitied to of won her over.

After much experimenting, the solution for the dishwasher that works best for me is one part borax, one part washing soda, and two parts Cascade powdered dishwasher soap. I use a couple of tablespoons per load, and don't close the little soap dispenser compartment, so there are two rinses. Works great....better than the liquid Cascade by itself, which worked best for me before. Just borax and washing soda didn't work at all for me, but works well for some people. So I still have to buy Cascade, but I use FAR less of it, and no longer taste it on my dishes.

I have come to the conclusion that our municipal water is a problem here. I also get a bad odor in our clothes, but it is not the vinegar. If I add a tablespoon or two of very diluted bleach to every load, even darks, no bad smell develops.

I saw a detergent recipe that used absorbic acid. It could be used in place of Cascade. I do have some trepidation using borox in dishwashing detergent. Its highly toxic if ingested. Does the dishwasher rinse it off throughly?

Sorry, I forgot to follow this thread.....I put it in as a pre-wash only, so the wash cycle becomes a rinse cycle, and then there is the rinse cycle, for two good rinses and only one wash. I used to be able to taste and smell whatever I used for detergent, then I had a "DUH!" moment and started doing it this way.

What is GSE? And do you know why she uses EO's along with fragrance oils? Seems like a waste of eo's.....and 2 oz seems like a lot....love the recipe, though, and think I will make some (once I understand it!! ) for part of a housewarming gift to a friend who just got a front loader (it can be used in a front loader, right? How much?) and will be closing soon.

I don't have a front loader, but she does. you should check out her site. She says it works great for a FL machine.

not sure why the EO and FO, but maybe teh EO for the antiseptic and the FO for the scent? I know I'm going ot add vanilla FO 'cause I love vanilla and the lemon and vanilla smell soooo good together.

the GSE is grape see extract. I'm not very knowledgeable on EO's but I'm sure there are a bunch of people that are.

As a massage therapist, I took an aromatherapy course early on and mix my own oils and lotions. GSE (never came across the initials!) is often used as a natural preservative. Usually, when someone is using this and EO's, they avoid toxic fragrance oils. I wonder if she meant 2 oz of EO's of your choice to scent the soap, rather than fragrance oils. Usually, fragrance oils are a big problem for those with sensitivities, and are toxic in general. That is why it seems strange to me that she would use both....that is like a recipe that calls for organic ingredients, then specifically calls for aspartame or something like that. I'll go check out the site....Shoulda done that first!
