I found what I'm pretty sure are turkey tail mushrooms. I'll be taking them by some folks with more knowledge on the subject than I have, just for a little i.d help, but in the meantime, do any of you tincture these guys? I have several people in my life battling cancer and would love to prepare a tincture that will actively combat that. I have maitake already tinctured and sent out to them, and reishi on the way, but this one sounds like a super good one. Thanks in advance for tips!

I'll be following this to learn what I can. :pop Can you post a pic of the Turkey Tails? I don't think I've ever seen them. I used Reishi extract before and it was good stuff. Surprisingly- it even tasted fine.

I am glad to see people taking this kind of initative. Cordiceps mushroom is another that is good for cancer.

Well, I'm not able to post a picture because I'm actually being super sneaky even bringing the things into the house. :hide

My poor hubby, love of my life, is 100% paranoid about bugs and swears that I'm bringing them into the house when I wildcraft. For the most part, I work around it so I can follow his requests, but on this one, I just couldn't resist. I've got them tucked in paper towels and bagged up in double-sealed Zip-loc baggies. I'm thinking that's good enough. :D In any case,

I'm finding totally confusing information about tincturing turkey tail. In one place, it said you need to boil them for 65 HOURS in order to break down cell walls inside the mushroom to make the medicinal qualities available for use. I don't know...:hu I thought that was whole point of using high proof alcohol.

I've posted a question about them at herbwifery forum, but no response yet. Hoping I'll get an answer before they go bad!

don't know anything about mushroom tinctures but something that is great for cancer is wheatgrass!

My impression was to dehydrate the turky tail, and mix it with 80- 100 poroof to make a tincture. i am assuming for tea, you just add the dehydrated (and ground) turkeytail into hot water and drink. had no idea turkey tail had medicinal properties. We saw tins when we lived up north, and I had my wild foraging book with me at all times. Never knew!!!!
