Where do you think?
1. What state/province/country are you in and what is your climate like?
Maryland, USA....Zone 7

2. How many people are in your family? Marital status?
Single. Live with my parents.

3. How would you define self sufficiency?
A broad concept that is essentially impossible. Also Economically inefficient
.
4. What would you do with your spare time if you had any resources you needed?
Make Everything I eat, plus more. Also, go off grid.

5. Have you ever built a house , or other types of building? Do you want to?
I built my raised beds, and my furniture from Ikea. that's about it. And I do want to. I'm into the tiny house movement as well, and a lot of that means you build it yourself.

6. Can you weld? Steel, aluminum, MiG, TiG, stick, Oxy-Acet?
I don't even know what those things are...

7. Who or what inspired you to become more self sufficient?
when I got the sweet taste of my first cherry tomato plant.

8 Cloth or paper?
I use both, but I want to use more cloth...

9. In what ways are you self sufficient now and in what ways would you like to learn more?
I have a raised bed garden. I'd like more, but I do live with my parents, but my dad doesn't really want me to touch the lawn....

10. In what way(s) will you never choose to become self sufficient?
probably meat. also medicine, and medical care. I'm also interested in having a "real" job...I know plenty of you don't, but my mantra is that I am able to sustain myself, but I also have a connection to the outside world.

11. Are you interested in stocking up for future needs?
If I were self sufficient I'd only be interested in stocking up for the winter.

12. Where do you end up when you sink into yourself, away from the outside world?
heck if i know.


13. Can you drive a farm tractor or a semi?
I'm still in high school, and I can't even drive a car...

14. Do you make crafts or useful items? Would you want to teach others how to do these?
I paint. Or at least I use to...

15. Can you have legally livestock where you are at? Do you have any? What kinds?
not in my backyard! I think I could have chickens...but I don't...

16. Can you operate a lathe? Metal, wood?
I've used a pottery wheel. that's about it.


17. Do you like to garden? If so, what do you enjoy growing?
of course I like to garden! I enjoy growing everything...except those darn brassica's, who seem to hate me...

18. Do you fish? Bait or explosives?
i didn't know you could blow up fish. I have fished, and I indeed failed at it.

19. How much space/land do you have or rent? City? Country? Suburb of DC. I think it is more than 2000 square feet....

20. Are you a Novice, Technician, General, Advanced? ARRL?
yes.

21. What is your self sufficient specialty? Or what one would you like to learn?
Specialty: Veggies. Also want to do Livestock/poultry, cheesemaking and other diary stuff, tree's, vines, bushes...solar/ wind...pretty much you name it.

22. If you could create a degree and curriculum, what would you major in and what classes would you take?


23. Do you do wood work? framing, finish, cabinet?
I can cut a branch off a tree. does that count?

24. Are you interested in herbal medicine?
for minor aches and pains or as supplements. I don't think it can compete with modern medicine.

25. If you could live any place you chose, where would it be?
still have to think about that one.

26. Do you use a wood stove for heating or cooking?
nope.

27. What would your ideal super hero/villain be?
Batman is pretty awesome in the Nolan movies.

28. Are your family or friends also interested in self sufficiency?
nope...

29. Do you like to cook? Are you interested in whole foods and natural foods? raw milk? farm fresh eggs?
I eat whole grain bread, but I'm not quite experienced in cooking...I can make a mean lasagna, though.

you're an MOS.

31. Do you forage or hunt for part of your food needs?
my neighbor's tree drops berries in my yard. does that count?

32. What skills do you have that help you be more self sufficient?
Understanding of Finance and economics.

33. In which fictional universe would you most like to live?
In the Inkhart Universe. I've been dreaming about that since I was a kid....

34. Do you have solar panels? Plans to use solar energy?

Yeah, when I went camping for a couple days.

Nope. Still eat my 5 guys hamburgers :)

Is corn that isn't completely filled up common with you guys? I only have a small space...about 18 Corn plants...but I think next year I'll do a miniature version

How do you have them planted? You need at least 4 plants by 4 plants in order to have it fill out completely.

ahh, I did something like 3 by 6. I tried to do some type of 3 sisters arrangement, but my green beans grew too tall and too fast for my corn....i'm surprised my corn didn't snap under the weight.

The corn not filling out has been common this year with the drought conditions.

Oh yeah, forgot you were in Maryland. I'm in Tennessee, just in the outer edge of the drought area.
