I think I'm almost ready to take on a batch of meat birds. I have a tractor of sorts that I've raised my newest 10 hens in to add to my laying flock. It's small, but any bigger and I wouldn't be able to move it easily. It's 4 foot by 12 foot, with an attached mini coop of sorts. It was just temporary for my layers.

How many meaties do you think I can raise in it? I'm hoping to do a couple rounds of birds in it before it gets too cold.

Also, I'm concerned my grain feed that I give the chickens won't contain enough protein for the meaties - is their a brand of feed out there that's high enough in protein but does NOT contain soy? I can find layer feed without it but not grower/meat bird feed.

Thanks!

There are high protein game bird and/or meat bird feeds but not many without soy. Typical protein percentage is 24-30%. What you can get will really depend on your local feed mill/feed store and who they are using as a supplier.
