i don't!
i'm too literal for riddles, i get hung up on wondering why such things would be there to begin with. to me it would be the beginnings of some kind of experiment as a kid that Mom would not approve of...

It's a mosquito trap. Mosquito lands on the salt thinking is sugar. Gets thirsty and drinks rum thinking is water. It gets drunk so it trips over the stick and hits his head on the rock. Dead in the instant,lol
