Just in case you were wondering....

"With Monsanto's patented genes being inserted into roughly 95 percent of all soybeans and 80 percent of all corn grown in the U.S., the company also is using its wide reach to control the ability of new biotech firms to get wide distribution for their products, according to a review of several Monsanto licensing agreements and dozens of interviews with seed industry participants, agriculture and legal experts.

Declining competition in the seed business could lead to price hikes that ripple out to every family's dinner table. That's because the corn flakes you had for breakfast, soda you drank at lunch and beef stew you ate for dinner likely were produced from crops grown with Monsanto's patented genes."

The thread title cracked me up  Yes, they still are. If they were any ol' business, I wouldn't necessarily say so. But, when you are talking about the national and world food supply, hoo boy.

As I've mentioned before, it is difficult for my DH to avoid Monsanto at the seed-buying stage. It will be frightening if they squeeze out everybody else until there are no other options.

By the way, you all know that other seed companies have this technology, too, right? Monsanto is kind of like Wal-Mart, just the biggest and baddest but not the only bully on the block.

Rrrrrrrggggghhhh, I get so mad at companies who genetically alter our food so that they can purposely spray it with toxic chemicals that build up in humans and do all kinds of things we haven't even thought of or found out yet. "Allowable levels of toxicity" REALLY????? :he :duc

Not many things scare me. I'm not an alarmist, but Monsanto is very, very bad. Very bad. :(
