"The person who may be responsible for more food-related illness and death than anyone in history has just been made the US food safety czar. This is no joke."

.....Taylor also determined that milk from injected cows did not require any special labeling. And as a gift to his future employer Monsanto, he wrote a white paper suggesting that if companies ever had the audacity to label their products as not using rbGH, they should also include a disclaimer stating that according to the FDA, there is no difference between milk from treated and untreated cows.

Taylor's disclaimer was also a lie. Monsanto's own studies and FDA scientists officially acknowledged differences in the drugged milk. No matter. Monsanto used Taylor's white paper as the basis to successfully sue dairies that labeled their products as rbGH-free.
Will Monsanto's Wolff Also Guard the Chickens?

As consumers learned that rbGH was dangerous, they refused to buy the milk. To keep their customers, a tidal wave of companies has publicly committed to not use the drug and to label their products as such. Monsanto tried unsuccessfully to convince the FDA and FTC to make it illegal for dairies to make rbGH-free claims, so they went to their special friend in Pennsylvania -- Dennis Wolff. As state secretary of agriculture, Wolff unilaterally declared that labeling products rbGH-free was illegal, and that all such labels must be removed from shelves statewide. This would, of course, eliminate the label from all national brands, as they couldn't afford to create separate packaging for just one state.

Fortunately, consumer demand forced Pennsylvania's Governor Ed Rendell to step in and stop Wolff's madness. But Rendell allowed Wolff to take a compromised position that now requires rbGH-free claims to also be accompanied by Taylor's FDA disclaimer on the package.

Please read the whole above article link for this disturbing news that may affect our health and the longevity of our children, even that of the human race.

Dear Health Conscious Reader,

Talk about putting the fox in charge of the hen house

President Obama recently selected Michael Taylor, former chief lobbyist for Monsanto, as the new food safety czar at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Think about that: The former lawyer and lobbyist for the company that manufactured Agent Orange will now make decisions about our nations food supply.

Taylor is the man most responsible for getting recombinant bovine growth hormone (rbGH) approved for use in dairy cows. Thats the stuff that fattens the cows to dangerously obese sizes, getting them ready for slaughter faster (By the way Monsanto produces the growth hormone).

And the food safety concerns dont stop there. The push for producing food faster extends to the produce you eat, too.

Genetically-modified seeds and hormones are now staples in the food you eat. You drink it in your milk, eat it in your cheese and yogurt, and ingest it each time you eat commercially-raised, grain-fed beef.

Since these seeds hit the market in 1996, weve seen:

Children reach puberty at earlier ages
A dramatic rise in asthma, autism, obesity and diabetes
A jump in food allergies, especially among children
Allergy-related emergency room visits double 1997-2002
Your health is too vital to leave it in the hands of corporate lobbyists and their political cronies. It doesnt have to be this way. Take charge of your own food choices.

Heres how to do it:

Dont be fooled by beef labeled organic. The organic label only means that the cattle do not have obvious levels of antibiotics or hormones in their body at the time of slaughter. It does not mean that ranchers have never given cattle these treatments.

Get serious about eating grass-fed beef. There are many farmers who have pledged to raise their cows purely on the natural foods they are supposed to eat grass, not grains. Visit www.grasslandbeef.com and www.eatwild.com for a list of grass-fed farms in the U.S. and Canada.

Become a locovore. There is a movement in place to eat and buy locally farmers co-ops within a 100-mile radius of where you live. Visit your local farmers market and ask questions about how they grow their crops. Threats to small family farmers and co-ops may come heavy-handed regulations by the food safety czar, so get the good stuff while it lasts.
To Your Good Health,

Thanks for the post.
My community has great sources for good food, so I am fortunate in that I am able to get most food stuff from a good reliable source, even if I have to pay a high price for it. There is also good support system in place for CSA consumers and farmers. We hope to tap into it to sell more of our product.

I just get so angry, when I see stuff like that though :somad

The old saying "The fox guarding the hen house" comes to mind.

What happened to the promise of "restore science to its' rightful place" when making decisions, especially in appointments? Nothing changes in politics, it's just the "same old, same old".

Sigh. I just don't know what to say. I suppose I'm glad I'm older and feel sorry for young people, including my kids and grandson. What kind of world are we making this into for them?

this is especially bothersome to me since i was/am (i can't decide right now) a big Obama supporter. i campaigned for him and was really pleased to see him win. with the White House organic garden i thought we might be in for some interesting developments in food legislation.

i guess i was right, it just wasn't the development that i wanted. this doesn't feel like "change we can believe in." it feels like a death sentence. i mean, i don't have much faith in the FDA anyway, but if this guy's track record in Virgina is any indication about his priorities, we are in for a hell of a fight.

i've written my representatives AND the President about how wrong this is. i know it's a largely futile thing to do, but at least i know i did something.
