So ok, I'm posting to start my family's attempt to live on a food budget of $35/person per week, which for our family is $140/week for groceries. And I'm baring my soul, er, fridge for all to see...

In the fridge at the moment we have the following items (I will find out the prices for each and add them to this post so that I can add them to my first budget amount):

2x 500 ml (home canned) fruit cocktail (one in front is half full)
leftover turkey, about 3 lbs
500 ml plain (home made) yogurt
250 grams cream cheese
1 L (home canned) peaches
500 ml home made turkey stock

2 gallons of milk (1 is two thirds full)
2 L organic apple cider
1 lb carrots
1 apple

leftover turkey gravy (2 cups)
leftover home made baked beans (1 cup)
leftover home made borscht soup (1 cup)
8 free range eggs

leftover mixed vegetables (1 cup)
1/3 small can of Wellness brand canned cat food (beef & chicken)
500 ml organic sour cream (half full)

half a cauliflower, half an iceburg lettuce (we don't usually buy this, but my parents were here over the weekend and they like it), and 6 parsnips.

We also have:

Oh, and we'll start with basic spices: salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, poultry seasoning, chili powder, Greek oregano, minced onion, cinnamon.

I will also add the prices for each of these once I know them, along with some basic baking staples: flour, salt, sugar, olive oil, yeast, baking soda, baking powder etc.

I might check this out. I think I can do it. But first the inventory and to get everyone on board. Might talk to DH about it.

Lol, it's so totally empty at the moment, because we had house guests (my parents came to visit from BC) over the weekend. We are out of everything, thus why I thought it was a good time to start.
