Morel Mushrooms Anyone??

For all of you that have em' around, any luck yet? We went out today and didn't find a darn thing!

Yeah Kala - I snuck off to my secret favorite place for Morels Sunday afternoon and I didn't see one stinkin shroom. I did get to watch a wild Tom turkey strutting and four Hens with him but no mushrooms.

There was a thread about Morels just last week I think. I'll look for it.

Yup, here it is . . . Morel mushrooms anyone?

They are finding them here,..but they are still small. I cannot wait to get some!

None for about two months for me. Still plenty of snow on the ground, but I'm itching for my next finds. They are SO good!

DH said we can't wonder around on other people's property so no, I haven't found any. :/ I may have to take a trip home to my parent's big woods soon to look.

We don't start looking here until about Mother's Day depending on the weather. This year I think they will be running a bit late.

I am sooo pissed off at "rural growth"..... most of the places I picked as a kid are gone! Houses!... Houses houses everywhere and not a 'shroom to pick! grrrrrrrrrrr

When I was a kid I would "disappear" into the woods and fields and riverside for a whole day and just bring Kool-aide and a few tools. I would eat off the land. Mom would be a little peeved I didn't eat much supper, but I was well feed. I feel bad I can't teach my grandkids this skill as easily as I was taught.

Some friends were here yesterday and found nearly a potato sack full.

I insist that people use open bags as I heard that it allows spores to drop and helps with future crops. Does anyone else heard this?

Yes I have. But the funny thing is that over in southeastern Ohio where I used to turkey hunt many years ago there is a tradition of harvesting the Morels in brown paper bags.

I use an old mesh laundry bag and shake it up and down constantly while out 'shrooming.

Growing up we used bread bags. But then again we also used those for rabbit hunting.

But since reading somewhere about the spores I now use some kind of mesh or hemp bag with loose weaving.
