So my hubby's best friend was in a downed helicopter in Viet Nam. He was missing for a long time. Now he is listed as killed in action. So I had a "Fallen Soldier" memorial for him. I will have a small plaque made this spring.

It's made of steel and the young artist made it rust quickly. It is stunning...he lives it..

It's a sad story, but a very beautiful and thoughtful gift! I love it.

I think of the families of those who died in action and were never returned or the MIA's. It must be so hard for these families who have no closure.

This fellas parents passed away while their son was MIA. He, his copter nor co-pilot were ever found. Yes he is now listed killed in action and is on our memorial wall at Washington DC. Too bad his parents never knew that..

Even though others have forgotten this kid, he remains in my hubby's thoughts. That's why I had someone make this. We have beautiful gardens over our 2.5 acres. It will be placed in a very pretty area of our property, along with the plaque.

Gone, but not forgotten. It's a beautiful gesture :hugs

A beautiful memorial. My niece (not a soldier) was missing for a couple of years before her body was recovered. I know how hard it was for his family.

I have a family relative who went missing in 1988. There was blood and a tooth left in her bedroom. She has never been found. Her parents and uncles are now gone. Now it is up to her siblings to keep her in the face of the authorities. What a horrible thing how many young people go missing.

It's something that lays on your heart. We use to have nightmares about her. She had a tragic end and her babies are without their mother but at least now there is a grave to visit.
