plus it is amazing what a good pair of loppers can do. i can take down saplings/branches up to three inches across with them. a smaller good pruning shears will do quite a bit too if you have the hand strength (or it will build it up :) ).
Yup, have a pair of loppers and 2 pairs of smaller pruning shears plus a pair of grass/hedge shears and I do alot of the trimming with those but sometimes stuff is still oout of my reach and I doont like climbing on ladders when I'm using any kind of tools because I don't have good balance as it is.

i certainly understand that last part - gravity can be really harsh (especially the landing part). :(

Its important to respect your physical limits. And, balance can be improved rather easily! I train balance because I'm at high risk for falls and for osteoporosis. I'm 38, and trying to stack the deck in my favor to avoid a broken hip in my 90's. (I'm also following @baymule keenly due to her impressive healing from joint replacement)

I also train balance because bodies respond quickly to balance training so I feel more confident in my exercise program. At least  something is improving! 🤣

I started with just standing on 2 feet with my eyes closed. I'm currently working on one-legged calf raises ... on a vibration plate. The vibration plate is a rocker style, so it's pushing/tilting me as it goes up and down. Challenging! Also, fun!

If a person's inner ears and nervous system are normal, balance starts with toe, foot, and ankle mobility, and calf stretches. Things one can do while sitting or lying down.

This is a favorite topic for me. I wont spam more, but I can share resources if anyone asks.

I'm in my mid 40's and already have arthritis in at least 30% of my body plus earlier this year I found out I have degernative disc disorder in my neck and lower back. whenever I get higher than 2 1/2 feet (which is half my height) that's when my balance goes haywire.
