MyKidLuvsGreenEgz .. .. COLORADO IS BURNING

Yeah, I guess that does make economic sense. I watched your vid link but since I don't have sound on my computer, had to guess what was being said. Guess I missed that part.

Hay up here is going to be really spotty this year because of all the field damage from Irene. Our hay guy isn't going to get another cutting off his big field. Well, he has to cut it, but he can't sell it. A huge financial hit since it will still cost him to mow it. Luckily the horses get orchard grass hay and aren't really picky.

Good luck finding someone to help out!

Yeah, I'm hoping I can get some decent hay for the goats...I still have about 12-15 square bales but I know I'm gonna need more in a few months. The little old man we got ours from had a ton of it so worst case scenario we could get some of last years hay from the middle of the stack where it hasn't been exposed. He charged us $5 a bale for alfalfa/orchard grass/clover mix and my girls love it. I got 25 bales from him in the spring. Our straw guy charges $3.50 per square bale and I know I'm gonna need more from him by wintertime too. I have about 15 bales left from the 25 I got in the spring. I feed our goats a handful of alfalfa pellets with their feed every day to cut down on the hay consumption. I also have to hold back on the amount of hay I give them to force them to go outside and eat. crazy goats.

We have had a lot of rain here and that has made everything late this year. It has been so wet that no one could get the machinery in to cut the corn fields and now most people are just cutting it for sileage cause it has gone so long. It's killing my hubby's hunting business cause they aren't leaving much waste for the geese to eat.

Food prices are gonna go through the roof this winter....

It's been so wet around here that there are places that have been under water for over a month. And, they're starting to stink. Plus, the mosquitoes and flies have gotten really bad. If the ground wasn't so flat, it would not have been as big of a problem. I doubt that I'll be able to get any more square bales this year, so I've already gone to the RBs for the horses.

Ohio has lots of hay. I see a whole bunch of ads in Craigslist and my hay guy said it was going to be a really good year for him.

Yeah, we have had a great hay year also on the ohter side of the lake. Luckily I have enough and then some to last us until next hay season. Hope you can find some to hold you over the winter.

Lots of hay around us, too. I've got guys around us selling 1st crop round bales, 800# avg for $25, 2nd crop for $35. I see some of the prices you guys pay for hay and just cringe.

In the throes of the worst migraine I've ever had (on Saturday) when sis called. Mother, who is elderly, took a spill on Friday and broke her right shoulder and upper right arm. Totally immobile. People taking care of her round the clock until in hospital for surgery or in a nursing home for recuperation.

Just checked home messages ... Sis left a "call me" message yesterday. Just called. Mother actually dislocated her shoulder and cracked the ball part of the shoulder/arm connection. That ball has to be replaced with a titanium one. Recovery 4-6 weeks. Surgery in 4 hours. Sis will call me afterwards.

Meanwhile, my leg got really bad yesterday, so much that I was crying from the pain. Hubby finished stacking firewood by himself (expecting rain this week ... needed to be done). Have to finish chicken coop walls tonight so I'm pretty much staying in bed today so I can help this evening.

Looking up ideas for things to sell at huge flea market the 2 weekends before Thanksgiving in November. Huge profit, easy to do, and fun. Here's what I wrote:

Goal: to make a couple thousand dollars for 4 days at the flea market, sitting in the cold and wind.

Bath salts? But I'd need to buy little bottles. No good at lotions or soap. Can't sell edibles. Garden didn't do well enough to sell produce. Eggs are out too (besides, my girls aren't laying THAT good!). To sell booklets, I'd need to spend more money to make any (for set up costs, etc that I'm not ready to spend).

I have a laminator and some laminating sheets. What about a single lam sheet, front and back, for most-cooked Thanksgiving recipes? Christmas gift ideas? etc.
How much would YOU pay for a pretty laminated sheet of the above? $4.99?

Other ideas?

No clue what people buy. I'm one of the worst consumers ever. But I'm on a scarf making kick because my job let's me make at least 1 a week, if not two. I'm making a matching hat for my scarf now. Then I've got one for auntie. And then I'm starting crochet :D

Caught one of my leghorns eating an egg just a bit ago. Isolated her. Plan to take her to butcher. Hope she didn't teach anyone else about it.

Mother had problems coming out of surgery but is resting. Just talked with her ... boy howdy is she higher than a kite! Kinda funny. But not. But yeah.

Working on my laminated recipe cards. Already have the one for scandinavian cooking finished: 13 recipes plus 11 open-faced sandwich-fixin's (essential in scan eating). Wondering what to do next: shortcut bread recipes?
