Thanks for the non-secular words of support.
Kid starts school next week ... one class a day. Just to see. Will only give me an hour a day but hey, that's more than I have now! And since his seizures are increasing, he has a 3-day hospital stay scheduled for end of April. Could be contributing to his mood swings.
Five baby chicks hatched last Saturday thru Sunday. She started with 5 eggs and ended with 5 chicks. What a good silkie mama! I love watching them follow her, and listen to her doing the "food call". Wonderful smart creatures. Have another broody hen who's got another 8 days before her 5 eggs hatch.
Finished the buck (boy goat) pen. Has a small chicken area. Goats have 4 x the space they have now. Truck topper in the middle with non-slip stickers on it (to help prevent hooves slipping). Still need to put in another pallet or two for them to walk on, especially when it gets soggy there. Just today finished the hay lean-to (except for the tin roofing). We have 2 new small bantam chicken houses and the bantam chicken run is almost done. About half the herb boxes are ready for soil and planting.
Started filling the veggie raised bed garden with soil. Concentrating on the places that I need to plant now: the brassicas. Have planted: 8 red cabbage, 8 green savoy cabbage, 4 buttercrunch lettuce. The beds are ready for 8 cauliflower and 8 broccoli. Also have 3 4x8 beds ready for strawberries. Still need to start tomato seeds and more ... sssooooo far behind!
I've gardened a lot in the past, just getting my feet wet, so to speak. Trying to figure out how to do things. I've always failed at potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and onions. So ...
My question: Now that I've transplanted the brassicas seedlings, do I need to mulch? How do I keep them from freezing? Does it even matter if it freezes again? We have another 2 months of possible snow and freezing rain... all the way up to the end of May. It's only March 15. I don't want to fail at these again.
How soon can i get the strawberries in? The potatoes?
