NAME THAT BUG. FRIEND OR FOE?

    Every gardener runs across insects that are not familiar. This thread is for sharing the information we read about those insects that cross our paths. This entry is provided with thanks to University of Maine Cooperative Extension. If you have not yet searched your State Cooperative extension office, now is a good time to do so. Within the last week, I've found some great resources regarding making a high tunnel raised bed, as well as many articles about garden management and animal husbandry.

    Here's my first entry: The female American Pelicinid Wasp. She is a gardener's friend. In NE, she is a true women's libber! Scroll down to the bottom section of the following link:

    Bingo. While I may know the names of some of the beneficial insects, I know very little about their habits and life cycles. This one is amazing, and I think I may have inadvertently killed some of her larvae b/c I thought the larvae were bad guys!
