Lovin' The Homestead
One of our 12 week old Americanas (my son's favorite named Delgado
) was missing at roll call last night and I found her this morning under my tractor. She had been dead for many hours. I examined her and saw no signs of wound or blood. She did had quite a lot of poo near her rear-end but I expect that is just a result of the releasing of the bowels upon death.
Temperatures have been in the low 70's and my girls have plenty of shade as they free range all day. The others seem energetic and are eating well. After last year's battles with raccoons and the daily blood bathes we would encounter I am a little paranoid about loosing my whole flock again. Are there any signs or symptoms of disease we should be on the look out for in the rest of our flock? While I hate to do it....are there any preventative measures/medications I could administer to keep all the ladies in tip-top shape.
They are so close to laying ages I hate to lose all my hard work now!!
