I totally agree with you. My husband is able to to it, and we raise all our own meat (or hunt) because I do believe exactly that. I just can't do it myself!
 
Gooooood morning sunshine!!!!! Y'all could to do it, but if ya don't hafta I don't blame ya! All the blood and guts is kinda sloppy and they like to run off and get on you somehow or other so...yuckness..but whatever I like cleaning catfish because I love to eat them and I'm dang awesome and fast at cleaning em :cool: if I do say so myself lol!
 
Lol! I have a fish phobia so I am certainly not going to be cleaning fish!

I could if I had to, yes. And I do help with cutting and wrapping, grinding sausage, etc. Just not the other parts.

The rooster is in rooster time out. DH put him there before he left to go to work. Now I just have to deal with the hens chasing me around looking for snacks. The broody came flying out this morning, ate and drank and ran back in the coop. Kind of amusing.
 
DH just does the "deed" - I actually do the rest. Skinning, gutting, cutting up - that's my job. If we do chickens, he usually does the killing and plucking cuz we have a plucker, lol. I do the gutting.

I'm pretty good at quail. From scissors in hand to a nekkid, gutted bird I can do in about 5 minutes. Dang, I need more quail! They are so easy!

I keep telling him we're gonna do the young male piggy this fall...and he keeps swallowing hard and saying... "yes, dear." Even though the 90ish bucks I paid to have the last one processed was money well spent in my opinion.
 
The town is working on my road today and my dogs are going nutty. So annoying!
 
I kill and butcher my birds and if I get a pig I will probably do that myself since I'm cheap. Killing the birds really is hard emotionally for me but when I buy my chicks I know that will be their fate. It's really a mindset thing. I give them a good life and I make it end as quick and painless as possible. I rarely even have one squawk.
 
DH doesn't like culling old hens. Cockerels are fine, but hens are harder. We do keep heritage, long laying breeds so not as necessary to cull as heavily. Just have to make them free range so they eat less feed.
