NH Homesteader's journal

That sounds like a Thanksgiving dinner to skip for sure! Too much drama.

Only a week and a half left with these dumb meat birds. They've grown pretty well, although there's one in there that's ridiculously tiny. Then we'll be down to the keepers for winter. I think we've got 19 keeper chickens and the 3 turkeys. Plus the pig and 5-6 goats depending on what happens with the doe I have for sale. Not too bad.

My husband's friend with the tractor has made no effort to get back to us about when he's coming so we're starting a backup plan. If I didn't have does that will be kidding while there's snow on the ground, I wouldn't be so panicked! This barn must be up soon!

Yay for meat birds in the freezer!! Does kidding with white stuff on the ground certainly might be a challenge! I'm sure ya'll will figure something out between now and then.

Hope your doe sells...grrr! OR - trade the doe for tractor work????? And, only after you see the quality of the tractor work, lol!

Lol! We'll figure it out. My husband doesn't always get things done when I want them done, but he always does it before it's too late.

I had to laugh - that's kinda the way it is around my house sometimes. Not sure why my explanations of why and when don't always make perfect sense to him the way they do to me!

He has gotten better about listening to some of my suggestions... Sometimes anyway... Lol.

Speaking of which, he's getting interested in AGH's... Gotta keep working on him!

We had porkchops Monday night...wish I had taken a picture of them...grrrr! That might have been the last package - I need to check. I'm not giving so much away with the next one we butcher, lol. Gonna keep more for MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! I do enjoy them...just have never seen a more relaxed breed. But, these are my first breeders - all other pigs we've raised have been feeders.

Yeah he actually wants to see what the cuts look like, he slaughtered one for someone but didn't get to cut it up. He likes having smaller animals in general, so I think he can be convinced if he's happy with the meat.

I actually really don't enjoy poultry, raising them, cooking them or even eating them. So I want enough other kinds of meat that we can not raise a ton of birds. He surprisingly agreed with that. Think he really hates butchering them that much!

Yep they're on the docket for spring of 2019! Plus we'll raise any goat wethers for meat.
