No school again :(

our schools were closed monday along with bridges and highways because it

1)rained
2)it was 31 degrees
3)there was about 15 min of frozen rain

then tuesday was a half day cause they were calming down from the incredible winter weather (shown bove)


oh and the best part is they shut down a 8 lane bridge with people on it because it had a patch of black ice

after an hour or so the police escorted each car over the bridge one by one

I did lose my snow coping ability very quickly when I moved here lol

My first Christmas 16 years ago when I moved here was 64 deg. I couldn't believe what a beautiful day it was outside, and nope, I didn't miss a white Christmas at all haha and I kinda didn't ever want to see a white Christmas ever again..wouldn't bother me one bit

I remember walking my dog one December wearing shorts & a tee shirt, thinking "how neat is THIS??" Yeah, don't miss white Christmases a bit either.

But now my blood is so thin I just can't keep warm...

There us still a little ice on the roads today, but not bad. School was open yesterday and busses ran snow routes. Today they are running all routes. I haven't been out but once and there were 3 large patches of ice that covered both sides of the road on our road and dh said the main road to town was still pretty bad, but it hasn't been above 30 here in the last week and lows in single digits. Today is supposed to be in the lower 40's.

Hell, I took my state driving test (in MI) when I was 16 in a blinding blizzard. You just grow up driving in snow, so it's no biggie.

You know the funniest thing, it only takes about 2" of snow to cause major havoc in Toronto and maybe 4-6" to shut it down completely!!! Which I still think is weird *Understandable*, because there is SO much traffic (both local and highway through-traffic) and so many people are from places, often *countries*, where they did NOT grow up driving in snow... but still. How long does it REALLY take people to figure out that you need to go slower and allow more space and longer stopping distances? <scratches head>

We had a closing this week with only a few inches.I was happy.People drive stupid in bad weather especially when it first starts coming down and is slippery. I passed 6 accidents on the way home from the kids school(highway)Tuesday,and some were twits that had just zoomed past me.

3 feet would keep me home for sure!

Cancel or not if the roads are bad outside my home the kids get to stay home.I know some public school are considering online work for students during snow days.I guess it is assumed everyone these days has a computer and internet.

You know, I have totally never ever grasped what the POINT is of setting a legally-imposed number of school days per year that is inflexible despite weather etc.

Even as a fifth grader I remember thinking, good grief, do they really think that two days fewer than the legal-minimum-school-year, every few years if there is a really bad winter, are going to MEANINGFULLY affect how much kids learn???

The most I can say is that concievably it might have a teeny amount of bearing on performance on standardized tests, the way a lot of schools seem to spend the majority of their time cramming kids for those tests. But, <pffhhththttt> to that.

REALISTICALLY speaking, what the heck difference does it really make?

We have about 1/4 inch on the ground right now. They are expecting about 6 inches tonight. They already canceled school for tomorrow. Of course we have had very little snow this year. Maybe they are trying to use up snow days.
