How horribly sad. What a loss of history.

Seeing that was about the only reason I would have ever gone to Paris. Scratch Paris from bucket list.

800 year-old building, imagine the history! I just heard firefighters are risking their lives to save as much of the art in the building as possible.

I've been to some cathedrals here in Ireland and they are really amazing places. Such a tragedy to lose something so special like this.

I am afraid I may have come of as flippant about this tragedy in my last post.
It is a very tragic event and it does impact me greatly. The true beauty of the building itself and the artwork that was inside - just tragic. I hope no-one gets hurt.

No, you didn't :hugs It is a tragic event and I think it was many people reason to visit Paris...

Firefighters have tried their best to save as much of the artwork as they could, from what I heard. One of them got "seriously injured" :( No details... Prayers to him and his family and co-workers.

Isn't the 870 year old cathedral mostly stone? Very odd its burning as wildly as it is. I guess it contains lots of flammables - IDK... Never been there I just find it odd its burning like it is on the TV.

Edit... They just said on TV that it's mainly 870 year old really dry timber. So much timber it took 52 acres of timber to build and is nicknamed "The Forest".

That would be the answer...

The exterior facade is mostly stone, yes. Tons of timber in the interior.
