On average, what do you spend on feed every month?

Exactly! I use this forum as "CHEAP" therapy, but I am afraid we (ok maybe just me) are all enablers of an addicting habit of acquiring animals or should I say "new family members" and that overrides frugal at least for me.

I know. It's true.

Some days I look at it like this: I could have a fancy car or nice jewelry or whatever . . . or I could have this life I have surrounded by living beauty. I guess you know what I have chosen as my luxury. :)

Ok, so we have;

13 large breed goats
2 dogs
1 donkey
250+ chickens
11 guineas
30 ducks
10+ geese
6 rabbits (2 due)
2 peafowl
13 turkeys
38 pigeons
7 cats

This is why I can't tell you the price. :hide
And we're cutting down on animals!
If my husband ever complains again about feed costs, I am just going to show him YOUR post!

I could not say it better, sometimes I think of all the money we spend on our animal with care and feed and I cringe, but when I walk outside and our horse nickers at me every time he sees me my heart says I have everything I really need. I am thankful they are all apart of my life.

1 ton hog feed per week---$221.00
1 to 1 1/2 tons chicken feed every 5-6 weeks--$291.00
goats are about $120 mo.
1 ton cattle feed every 4 weeks---$240
cats very little--dry feed and scraps

horse sadly is gone and dogs are passed. so pets are few except my barn cats.

so about $1,295

wow I hate to see that monthly tab! :)

Well, the good thing about having sooo many; its really hard to count them! So on the rare occasion my dad goes out there, he doesn't know what is what, so its all kind of foggy for him. He still complains A LOT, like everyday, but my mom and I pay for the feed and take care of them. We used to buy corn from him (my mom relies solely on herself financially, not my dad, although occasionally my mom pays for his truck bills etc.) but he made us pay the same as the feed store AND we had to listen to him complain when we got it, so its easier buying it from the store. LOL

Wow, FarmerChick! Is the feed cheaper if you buy it by the ton?

oh yes big time cheaper by the ton
If you can haul it, and store it like I can...you save a whopping amt. over 50 lb bagged feed!

my friend Barb--her dairy farm is about $40,000 in feed per month
WOOF--LOL

I know I don't want that bill. HA HA
