Well here it is. Time has slipped away from me again. Mom is home and doing better from what the docs say, but she seems to be feeling less like doing anything at all. I totally understand (don't get me wrong) but now I have 2 households to keep running.
I got a chance to make spaghetti sauce out of some ripened maters and need to find the time to can it today. Also have tons more tomatos to work up. I would love to take the time to make sauce out of all of it, but it takes so long to boil it down to any consistency.
Last Monday was B's 4th birthday, so we had his party on Saturday. Today is Big K's birthday and I am cheffing up a meal. Since the finances are always tight around here, K and I have forgone presents for any holidays for a while now. I would love to be able to go and get him something that he would love but it is just not doable.
Not doable because....... Like I said when it rains it pours. While Mom was in the hospital the AC went out in my van. I thought I could tough it out but only have one window that rolls down and this week the heat indexs are in the 110 - 115 degree range. So hubby went to a meeting later that night after the van AC blew and the back brake caliber locked up on his truck. He actually had to leave his truck to be fixed so I decided I could wait on the van. Okay this fat chick in a van with no AC was not working so had Dad take me down to have it fixed. Of course, got the response that it would be 2 days. Went to pick up Big K's truck and they had to order a whole new drum so another 2 days on him. WE WERE AFOOT! Dad called brother and asked to borrow his truck (they have 4 vehicles, don't get me started) and so I was going to take his truck. About 30 minutes after dropping him off, he called to tell me the tie rod end had fallen off brother's truck. So I went to pick him up and we decided to reserect (SP?) Mom's old car. It had been sitting for about 3 years. Of course the battery was dead and pulled one off the tractor and got it running. while unloading our carseats from dad's truck I noticed the air was not working in her car either, BUT it did have windows that rolled down, so I could tough it out. Then while driving the 1990 Cadillac, having the windows down loosened the headliner and that now hangs on everyone's head.
Seems anything I have touched for the last week has fallen apart. Finally had to sit down and have one good cry about it and then suck it up and go on.
So now after $250 on the truck and then $350 on the van, we are tapped out. Not to mention that I think the torc convertor is going on the truck and the van needs an alignment, brakes and shocks and struts. Oh well, we will get to it when we can.
On the bright side, I had an interview today at the local school for a personal aide position. I am hoping to get it because it would work so well with P's school schedule and then B would only have to spend a short time in the afternoon with a babysitter. It only pays minimum wage but I would be eligible for insurance and that would save it being deducted from Big K's check. The interview went exceptionally well and I am hopeing for the best and preparing for the worst.
Well I had better get back to getting things done for Big K's supper tonight. Thinking pork chops, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, and homemade peach cobbler.
I would also like to ask you all to suggest anything for canning tomatoes/sauces. Seems like I have a pile of maters and then end up with 2 pints of sauce. Maybe that's the mater way, but would love suggestions or recipes you use.
