We are basically doing the same sort of thing. Although, to be honest, as much as I like the idea of permaculture, I like to pick and choose agricultural techniques to my liking, so I am definitely not a hardcore permaculturist. We prioritized fruit trees and fruiting bushes the first year (and have added more since), as well as prioritizing perennial food sources like rhubarb, asparagus, and artichoke. My favorite project was the herb spiral, and it seems to work pretty well. Though, I have also dug a lot of more traditional beds for herbs and veggies, as well as raised beds. I guess I'm all over the landscape.

Rhubarb is best peeled and salted right out of the garden..... :drool

My folks always made the rhubarb into pies and cobblers....really good if mixed with strawberries in a cobbler.
