Hey guys :) I'm always trying to come up with the master plan for garden fencing, and was wondering if you have any pictures to share, or advice, or both.

Our garden space is about 24 feet square, and the problem is it's right in front of the house where most of our windows are. My husband is really not crazy about looking through an 8' fence (I don't know why, I'd be looking out there all the time, just to admire it) so I keep trying to find something that will keep the deer out, not trip me up, and not look terrible. And not cost a fortune! This year I've divided everything up into garden boxes about 4' square, with short fencing above them. It has potential, but I feel like I'm wasting space. Thanks! Rebekah

is keeping deer out the main situation?

motion sensor with short alarm and light.
deer enter, get scared and way cheaper than a fence

I too would love to know what others are doing to fence their gardens. Right now we have no fence, but are using a motion detector and an elevated water hose. The deer walk in, set off the motion detector and then the sprinkler starts to squirt water in a circle chasing them off.

It works very well, but right now it only works dusk to dawn and I have had some things nibbled either in the morning or during the day.

We are costing and saving to put up an electric fence, especially since I want to make the garden larger and the sprinkle won't cover the whole thing.

Tami :)

we have this stuff
http://www.lowes.com/pd_92252-80032...br|0||p_product_qty_sales_dollar|1&facetInfo=

(we use the 4ft tall stuff though)

we used ot have the 36" in the same stuff but our deer still jumped it (and often landed ONTOP of it *rolls eyes* but they havent bothered once with the 48" tall fencing...and we have ALOT of deer, this is the first year ever weve actually grown stuff in ground (usually in pots on the deck) and actually gotten a harvest out of it!

the nice thing with the green vinly stuff and t-posts is you see right through it and the green blends so honestly its actaully not that visable...
its also strong enough to grow stuff up...our squash are thrving trellised up the fencing! and its easy to pull out and move as needed.

we get deer along the back fenceline all the time, but this is the first year weve not had a single deer on our side of the fence.

Not really suitable for most front yards, but we use 6 ft. tall, 2x4 inch welded wire fencing with T-posts. It ain't much to look at, but it does the job and no one really sees it anyway. We have had one deer get in this year when the gate was left open, and it went over the fence (actually bent the fence over at about the 5 foot level) getting out. We have discussed putting a strand of electrified fencing along the top should the 'coons ever become a problem.

We did a really low tech fence of posts and 3 ft high chicken wire. The key was buying a product called Invisible Fence. That stuff keeps out deer, rabbits, squirrels, neighbors and most life forms. The first ingredient in it is 'putrefied egg solids'. Nuff said.

We were over-run by deer this year in our garden. We have gone with a fence similar to what Pinkfox described (with butternut squash and sugar pumpkins trailing all over it and thriving as she said), wind chimes, invisible fence, and the farmer whose field wraps around our property planting corn :D I think the last one was what really got them off my puny garden so it could sort-of bounce back!

We have a 6' stockade fence on the side of the garden that faces the road and 60" welded wire fence along the other 3 sides with an additional run of 48" plastic netting around the back to create an area for the chickens and a deer buffer, they might jump one fence but don't have enough space to jump the second fence.
