planting out cabbage transplants

We used to transplant cabbage or brocolli by the thousands using a mechnical transplanter. The speed those go you can't be fussy about the depth. If their roots were in the soil and leaves able to get sun they were fine. Clay mud can be bad The mud ball around the roots/stem can retard growth and the moisture held can promote rot.

Measure planting positions at 45cm intervals. Dig a deep hole at each point, and insert a plant. Push in a small amount of soil to just cover the roots, so that the plant is held in place. When you are finished, the lower leaves should just rest on the earth's surface. And fertilize 3 weeks after transplanting. Keep soil moist with mulch and water 2 inches per week.
