i have been searching long and hard for chain link fencing for free via cl and freecycle and not having any luck

i have to fence about 3 acres

i would like 5' tall fence and how ever many feet i can snag at once

i going to do it all kinds of ghetto if i cant get poles to begin with cause the fence itself with take a good bit of available moolah

if i cant find a deal with poles and only the fence i will just nonpermanently attach it to the trees

so what would you be willing to pay for say 100' lengths of chain length fence without poles

your help is greatly appreciated

also really internested in old rod iron gates you drive thru and someone is selling hand pounded double mansion spear top gates about not sure of the length but around 15' and he wants 2500 is that crazy

What are you trying keep in, or out?

When I checked on fencing 1 acre it was too costly to go chain link plus it is a pretty labor intensive job.
Last year when I checked the prices it was about $200 for 100 feet which included up right poles and not counting concrete to set the poles. So for a 200 foot square it would of cost about $400 a side x 4 = $1600 for the fence only, add another $1600 more for the 160 lengths of top and bottom poles.

Don't forget to add in the labor at $1 an hour for doing it yourself it should come out to about $10,000 dollars at 20 hours a weekend for the next 10 years.

I ended up doing an electric fence instead, using t-bars, insulators, and 1 mile of polywire making five runs about 8" apart. Total cost was about $300 including a weed zapping fence charger good for 25 miles. It does not keep chickens in but it sure dissuades the dogs from either side. If I were to make it permanent I would of used the aluminum wire because it is much stronger and only a few dollars more, if something decides to run into the poly it will break or stretch.

You are looking for 4000' linear feet of fencing and will take a lifetime to get from the sources you mentioned. New 5' x 100' of chain link is about $150 and $10 a pole.

We fenced in about 7 acres with T posts (except at the corners and gates where you need good heavy wooden posts sunk 2-1/2 to 3' in the ground) and braided wire. It's 4 strands and about 5' high. We did all the post pounding and wire stringing ourselves. The material ( posts, wire, solar fencer, insulators, 2 - 12' gates, and 1 - 6' gate cost around $2600 and some of it we got used at farm sales.
Forget about keeping in goats or chickens with wire fence. They go right through it and the deer go right over it.

The cattle can be fenced by cheap electric wire, goats I have heard can be quite an escape artist and may need better - I have been told that if your fence can't hold water then it can't hold goats, the children will need a 20' tall penitentiary style block wall. An electric fence should be spaced so that the animal hits with its nose, If it gets its head past the wires and behind the ears it may bolt right though it.

You have a daunting task and even with cattle panel or welded utility fence it will not be cheap nor easy. I would start small and keep your children safe in a smaller area, they don't need to run amok in a large field unless your watching (how old are they?). Then electric wire in the cattle, the goats can actually be tethered if temporary for spot feeding while having a much smaller secured fenced in area for the night.

My brother has goats and does just that, cheap welded wire fence using 10' electrical conduit for the top and bottom rails for a night time corral and then tethers them in certain areas for day feeding and weed control.

You can buy a good electric netting from Premier1 that works well work goats. Light weight so its easy to move. I've seen herds of 60+ brush meat goats fenced in with that stuff.
