Ours is $1.137 for a litre... but it's regulated pricing so it changes every Wednesday night at midnight according to some complicated formula. (I'm in New Brunswick, Canada)

Since a US gallon has 3.78 litres that works out to $4.30 a gallon this week.

We turned the master switch for our furnace off last February. Planning on not turning it back on unless we have to travel and have housesitters. Gotta stack some just-delivered wood!

We will fill up next month. Then run the woodstove as long as we can. We have finally had it with oil. We are now fighting back as much as possble. If we have to burn wood all yr we will now. :(

We are ripping out all the lath and plaster and installing R26 insulation. Changing out all the 100 year old windows as well ( will recycle into greenhouse) and have made insulated inserts for the least used rooms and those on the North side. Going to be a bat cave when we get done. We don't even have heat vents upstairs; thats what blankets are for. Every year that we get another room done, we have a corresponding drop in run time on the furnace. We also have an out door wood boiler that takes care of all the scrap from our renovations and heats the house and hot water during spring and fall. We only use the furnace during the coldest part of the year. We have probably saved the cost of doing this already, as the house was a drafty frozen ice box when we moved in and nothing could keep it warm. First thing we did was insulate the floors because it didn't take us long to figure out why the old couple had rugs all over the place.
