I'm quite upset.
Just a bit ago a friend called me. She found out why our local TSC's are requiring ducklings to be purchased in quantities of 6. TSC has partnered with PETA for animal rights and whatever else PETA is for and are doing this to deter them being bought as novelty "throwaway" pets!
I know in Ohio, the Dept of Ag requires chicks to be purchased in quantities of 6, but usually with ducklings you only have to buy 2....our local TSC's are requiring ducks to be purchased in lots of 6, and when we asked if that was a state law, they said no, they are just partnering in with that specific group that's out to protect animals Then they said that it was to deter people from purchasing them as novelty pets, which I understand with Easter and all, but if they want to deter them as novelty pets, don't get them in at Easter DUH.
My DH says it's doing more harm then good, because people are now buying the 6, and then turning loose the ones they don't want!!
I hate the idea that if I shop at TSC now I'm supporting PETA. I am not a supporter of theirs. Now I am going to have to do some researching to find out if they are just doing this a temp thing by suggestion of PETA, or are they really partners with them and sending $ to them...I will not sink $ into something I don't support! It's that simple!
disclaimer: I realize I don't know where all corporations send their money, but as soon as I learn that they send money to something I don't support, I'm so done shopping there!
I'll stick with the Cadiz Feedstore. It's eleven miles from my house, a bit pricier than TSC or other feedstores, but they don't send any money to any animal rights groups or any other type of groups that I am currently aware of....hmmm I might have to ask them....
If it comes down to it, I might have to choose the lesser of two evils...say if they both support some kind of group...I'll shop with the one who doesn't support PETA.
Mom didn't bring the critters out today. I think she had a pretty long, exhuasting, frustrating day. Plus, she is coming in the morning to watch the kiddos while we go to physical therapy so the new critters will arrive tomorrow morning, I think.
We decided what to do with the new fencing.

It's going to be our turkey pen. It's going behind the chicken pen that houses the layers, and we are covering the top with some bird netting so the turkeys won't be able to fly out. This is also going to limit where they can lay their eggs as all 3 ladies have hidden their nests and therefore their eggs from us! Going to have to put a stop to that PDQ!
The woodbox on the back porch is being moved off the porch after this week and I'm putting my flock of Mille Fleurs in it with their own run.
My pair of Quail Antwerps will be getting their own chicken tractor made out of pallets hopefully soon, as in next week! The coop runs are also going to be covered soon as I cannot have chickens flying out and in my gardens.
The geese are setting their nest, and are being quite aggressive right now. It's even worse as I've forced them all into the pen and shut the gate. Free ranging days are over until all planting is done and the growing season is well under way. I might try fencing off the gardens, not sure on that yet. We'll see.
