You are going to have to post some pics of your new goat and calves!! I want to see 'em!! I totally have to plan a trip to your house this coming spring! My kiddos will love seeing all of your animals!

I said this exact same thing this morning! We went out to do the bottle feeding and I told DH that if we had only bought his, we'd be out a calf right now. I told him having the one I wanted helped because it called it back in.

That is such a funny story. I love how your family works together.

Thank you, that's a wonderul compliment. It wasn't always this way. I was a young spoiled brat when DH and I first got together and I had to do a lot of growing up over these last 10 years we've been married. Especially if I wanted my family and marriage to work! It has all been worth it, even during the hardships.

Few things I forgot to put in my original posting about yesterday.

1) When the calf got away from us, we already had the gate open to the pasture area.

2) House wasn't unlocked yet, and I had 5 kids plus another calf IN the van....

3) Took off after calf and ONLY remembered that I left the gate open AFTER we were all the way over a hill from our property.....

It was when I realized number 3 that I stopped giving chase on the calf and yelled at DH that I had left the gate open and the kids are up there still and more than likely, goats are out!

I had charged back full speed towards the house (I haven't run that much since I was in track in Jr. High! We're talking 16-17 years ago!) and soon as the yard came back in view, I see five goats eating off our 1200 pound round bale, and my children are LEAPING back in the van. Poor kids!

I couldn't unlock the house because DH had taken off after the calf with ALL the keys in HIS pocket. I used some grain to bribe the goats back in the gate and then I found some rope, told the kids to sit tight, and trotted across the field where I had seen my DH last chasing the calf. By the time I caught up to him, both he and the calf were in FIL's yard, which is how FIL found out we needed help LOL

I gave them the rope and at this point the calf charged back across the dirt road to our house, so DH and I took off on foot down the paved road parrallel with where the calf was running. That's when we lost sight of him and couldn't find him.

Not only was I upset over the calf, but I was upset with myself for losing all collective thought and taking off without realizing I had left the kids in the yard. When DH and I got back to the house we immediately unlocked the house, got the kids in and settled. I am so thankful that my oldest is a big helper! She took charge and fixed up a snack of crackers and cheese to keep her brothers occupied while we were looking for the calf. When I came in from helping to check on the kids, she was changing the baby's diaper. She is such a good kid!

Older kids are awesome!! The story of your day from yesterday just keeps getting funnier!!

Don't worry I will not stop in unannounced!! You are not exactly on my way to anywhere!! Hehe!! I will give you over a weeks notice! (You know how I just 'love' people dropping in on me unannounced!! ) It will probably be on a Friday when we can go to Roger's flee market. Then my mom (and possibly brother too) would be coming with me because DH can not take to many days off. My mom and brother lover to go to Roger's.

It's a Chevy conversion van. I know those two calves BARELY fit in the middle of the van The smaller calf laid down in front of the kids on the bench seat in the back and the bigger calf was in the middle of the van behind the two front seats. Bambi the goat kid was small enough to ride on a lap.

Hey, when you don't have a truck, and God makes something available, you don't question, just do! LOL

I am up to 16 chicks and my only bantam egg that was set with this hatch is now trying to zip...if he makes it out that will put me at 17.

Our deals of the day didn't stop with yesterday. Today I found a breeding quad of Embden Geese....for the price of a pair!!!!!!!! I came home with One Gander and three ladies for him! And they are already breeding! They should start laying their eggs in March.

I really wanted Toulouse Geese, but again, when God provides something, don't question. I had been hoping God would give me a clear answer on the geese, and I felt this was it! They were not my first choice of Geese, but I know God has his reasons for providing our farm with the animals he has been providing. I'm not going to question!

I have 300 chicks coming in on Monday for the local feedstore. When I stopped in to put up the signs announcing that we would be having "Chick Days" starting next week, the feedstore owner said he may already have some of the chicks sold for me!

I'm super excited about everything that has been happening around here lately! I feel that we have really been blessed and things finally feel like they are falling in place for our farm.

Now if I could just manage that Alpaca...........
