I have a Red Haven dwarf and love that little tree. Lots of fruit and DELISH! I just wish it was a freestone - mine is a cling.

I am exhausted!

We had a very busy day, but a very satisfying and fulfilling day!

First, this morning we filled all our empty water containers. Did the normal feeding/watering of the livestock, and collected eggs (we are up to 14 eggs a day!) and then we dug in and decided to accomplish those special jobs we've been wanting to do all week.

We got the brooder that DH built me last fall all finished finally, so that the bigger chickens can no longer roost at the top or get inside. Then we moved most of the remaining Barred Rock chicks and Rhode Island Red chicks out there. It sure is quiet in the house now!

Then we finally built the raised bed. Have no where near enough top soil So tomorrow I think we are going to make a trip to Lowe's to get more topsoil. Yes, I took pics, but I am not going to take time to load them right now, but will work on it tomorrow.

After we built the raised bed, we planted our two plum trees and the Red Haven Peach tree. Got pics of that, too.

We cooked on the grill today!!!! First grilling out of the year! It was great!!

The check from the Auction barn came in the mail today. I got 3 times the amount I thought I would get for my chicks!

We also got 4 letters from 4 different attorneys today wanting to represent us due to the car accident.

Hey, just a thought, not based on any experience with raised beds except my foundation beds in front that came with landscaping timbers when we moved in seven years ago....all my adding of compost has really filled those planters, bigtime. So if you have a nice compost pile going, stir lots in, and allow some room in the planters for compost to be added each year. That might save you some $$ at Lowe's right now.

Kills me to buy dirt!!! Just bought some for seed starting today, myself.

I was going to say the same thing about buying dirt.

Check around there are lots of COMMERCIAL composting places around now. There is a place by us where I buy BULK compost to fill my huge planters. They charge people to drop off their lawn waste, which is no longer picked up by the trash man for the landfills. They then chip it for mulch, or compost it and then they SELL the finished materials - making money at both ends of the deal. (Wish I had thought of that!)

All it means to me is I can get a TRUCKLOAD of beautiful black organic compost for under $30.

It is like black GOLD!

I compost at home as well but I never have enough!

Not a whole lot new going on today, but I thought I'd post the pics of the raised bed construction as promised.

It's about halfway full of soil now, but I still need more in it. Not wanting to go buy more, so we talked to a local Amish man that we buy our hay from, and he's going to work out a deal with us so I can get a truck load of dirt hauled in for my raised bed (and possibly any future raised beds) and most of the dirt is compost from his cows! lol So hopefully good stuff!

That is awesome that you can get compost from a neighbor!
