Out to pasture
To think your kids never got to run through a sprinkler, at their own home anyhow. Gosh the fun they have missed, but will get to participate in this summer.
It was always one of those easy fairly cheap forms of entertainment on a hot summer day for us. Turn on outside faucet, add kids and listen to the squeals of delight. In the meantime you get a bit of peace and quiet. You know where the kids are, coz you can hear them, you can start working on dinner or whatever, or better yet, join them outside and actually do some reading.

So someone school me on the well thing. Does it come with a pump and storage tank? Do you need to roll up the rope and carry in a bucket? How do they set it up?

ROTFL! No rope and bucket! well, maybe a bucket or jug until it's plumped to the house - but no rope.TanksHill said:
They'll drill down until they hit water. After they hit water, they'll drill several feet down after that to ensure a reservoir. They put steel pipe (I think) so far down the hole they drilled. A cap will be bolted to the top so that kids can't put stuff down our water supply.
We are going to purchase the pump and storage tank ourselves, because it will save us some money.

So today was another wonderful day!
Ok, not the whole day, but this afternoon was pretty good!
We're on a flood watch, due to the melting snows and the rain we're supposed to be getting but not getting yet
We had an appointment for the kiddos this afternoon in town, so we figured we'd make a trip count and fill up the few water containers we'd emptied. I also wanted to pick up some feed to make sure I had enough to get me through just in case the roads flood and we can't get out.
Soo, we get through our appointment and decided to stop at the feed store before going to the spring. I had to discuss with them the cost of my duck pellets. When they had ordered them for me, the store manager/owner had told me they would be $12.95 a bag. Last month E had gone in to pick them up for me, and they charged him $14.50 a bag. I was livid, said if I wanted to pay $14 I would have stuck with the game pellets. So, I made sure I asked them today. I wasn't rude about it, I just told them I was confused and thought I had the price wrong, or that maybe I remembered wrong.
He double checked the price. I was right, they were supposed to be $12.95 a bag. He apologised, said he remembered ringing up my husband a couple weeks ago, and wasn't sure why he charged the $14.50 instead of $12.95.
He charged the correct price today, and said they'd remember for next time. He also said he's already ordered in two bags for me for next month and that they should be arriving next week. I really love this feedstore!
A few weeks ago, when we got the feed last, we had done the math. The prices at this feed store are a few cents higher, but I end up only paying roughly $1 more on my feed bill. Figure it doesn't take much gas, where as going to the other feedstores in the bigger towns we're out $10 in gas. One dollar more in feed is far less than $10 in gas. That's savings!
So anyway, back to today.
We drove around back to load up my three bags of feed, and the owner/manager comes out and says, "Hey, I've got this bag of scratch here that had a hole in it. I've tied it shut, and it didn't lose much, but if you'd like to have it, you can have it."
I was like, "Yea I'll take it!" I thanked him several times, and assured him that my chickens thank him, too.
I was so tickled! a free bag of scratch! and to be honest, I do not believe it lost that much scratch out of the hole, because it sure felt like a 50# bag to me! Part of me thinks it was his way of making up for the over charge a couple weeks ago.
Did I mention I love this feed store?!
