Quail_Antwerp: Words from the Barnyard...

I grew up in a cockatiel household, anti-finch. Now that I have a breeding male I hate cockatiels!! He's so annoying, cherish your female :) I have 2 finches and I like them more then my cockatiel.

We have an old cockatiel named Corky. We all love him.

We have had him since he was about a year old. He was a rescue from an old woman with Alzheimer's who used to throw things at his cage, and beat on it when he bothered her. He can talk and still says "Corky is a preeetty bird" that sounds just like a very old woman's voice. :gig He also whistles several songs. Our Corky is terrified to leave his cage. We worked with him for about three years trying to get him more comfortable outside of it - even placing his open top cage right beside the dining table for a year. He would NEVER leave the cage.

Corky is an OLD man these days. He was a '92 hatchling according to his leg band, which makes him 19 years old this year!!

I wasn't impressed with her one FB pic of one of the cows. I didn't know they were Holsteins, so I'm glad you didn't do the trade.

You sure know how to make a week sound busy, though with car issues and such, you were probably busier than it even look here. :th

Glad show and tell went well.
I wasn't impressed with her pic of the Amish Boy. :duc

So two Amish Men showed up on my friends front porch, and said apparantly there's a problem, I just didn't realize it was my problem. He then explained that the three steers in her pen were his.

She told him he owes her for hay and worm medicine, and he said OK he'd make it right with her.

I talked to her on the phone this morning, and she actually asked if WE brought them to her house. I was like, "brought who?" to which she replied, ok you know nothing about it then.

This nearly brought on a very bad expletive from me. But I refrained, because her tone was kind of accusing.

Anyway, so the owner has appeared and the wormy not so healthy looking steers are going to their original home.

lori - I got mixed breed ducklings. Only because I've had people asking me for Easter Ducklings and I have NONE to sell!!

My mom had a male named Korkie. He was awesome! He taught my parakeet to talk.. so both birds said "Korkie's a good bird" constantly!

When TR and I started dating he had just taken over the care of his older sister's 3 year old grey cockatiel named Seymour. Seymour had been trained a variety of phrases and he whistled a few songs and the musical scales. He wasn't allowed to fly around the house because they had cats.

Seymour was definitely a morning kind of guy. However, TR was working 3rd shift and wasn't getting any sleep! So I birdnapped Seymour, cage and all, and took him home, where he was an only pet. Whenever my dad would play the guitar or organ, Seymour would sit on his shoulder or head and whistle along. This was pretty much a daily occurence. My dad would let Seymour fly about the house, but that bird would always fly back to be with my dad. They definitely became musical friends. :D

After TR and I got married, we brought Seymour to our house, where he still could fly around the house. Even though Seymour had no one left to provide musical accompaniment, he did still chatter up a storm with us and Kel and Jon. My parents didn't live very far from us, and sometimes my dad would bring his guitar over and he and Seymour would get a chance to be musical together once again.

I guess all my animals are spoiled...... ;)

Well good grief! I'm exhausted from reading that!

But I couldn't help laugh at the thought of the "semi-nude fat girl" chasing a cockateil! :lau

I hope it's all working out for you!

People! Glad you were able to hold your tongue, but that does let you know a bit more about that person doesn't it?

At least the calves got back to their rightful owners.

I mud wrestled today. And not the kind of mud wrestling that draws cat calls, and beady eyed men to gawk at half dressed women in barely there bikinis while slather eachother in mud mud wrestling.

No, I did "watch out for Becca's Gander!" mud wrestling and "where's the hose? get 'im get 'im!"

Linus the Embden doesn't like me, and the feeling is 100% mutual.

It took me a bit longer to do Becca's chores today than it normally does - even with her mom out helping and with baby boy gathering eggs.

I told her mom that we have to schedule an intervention! (I'm Kidding Becca!)

So after the mudslinging, gander avoiding, and mud diving for eggs, chores were done and I ran to the library for some R&R before having to go home LOL
