Well, I'm hatching Naked Necks, and they make the cutest babies. :D
That's true -

..........................but then they grow up :plbb

My chicks that are feathering in haven't been needing their heat lamp during the day because it's been getting so hot.

This morning I forgot to turn their light off, and by this afternoon my Wheaten Maran Cockerel had keeled over from what I'm guessing was heat stroke. :hit

That dang coop is sooo hot this afternoon! I told E I think I need another window in it, for summer time, so we're looking at the opposite wall from my door for air flow.

Lucky for me I have a friend who is just as much an enabler as I am - so I've sent BeccaOh and email to see if she still had the Wheaten Maran Cockerels that hadn't sold at Mt. Hope :fl

I really don't have luck keeping male chickens. Everyone else I know wants to sell off or give away their extras - I'm ready to build a chicken bachelor coop where I just house extra males of each breed I'm working with!

On the up side, 3 out of the 4 Sumatras have hatched! :ya

I don't think the last one made it. :(

Sorry to hear about the cockerel chick. Can you change out the bulb to a low wattage so they have some light but not heat? The extra window sounds like a good plan.
